Always good to cross streams with you guys , but looking like a pretty aggressive call at the moment, at least according to the models. NOAA's forecast makes things a bit more intriguing and with SW wind working now could generate some wind swell. Hmmm. |

I'll drive down to Horseneck for a wavecheck this Fri AM, and post here by 9 am. Low tide is at 2pm, so waves will be cleanest surf-wise from noon to 4 pm. |

does the BBB blowing 30 at mid afternoon have any correlation with the wind at HN(for future reference)? |

Take off at least 10 mph, depending on wind direction. NW and W is always gusty, especially close to shore... |

Paul, I drove out on the neck at about 930am and measured 12mph, sailed at the main beach at 11am, it was starting to gust up to high teens, 1pm I re-rigged to a 4.7.
Fun day all in all, decent waves, bit holey on the inside with the side off, ended up going back to the sealion on the 4.7.
Good to sail with a few people, was on the fence with going to pt Judith and saw Outcast's post.
Windswell, you were the one with the truck with RI plates ?

Paul
I think if BB buoy is blowing 25 or better from west (SW-NW)
HN works. Could be any thing wind wise at the beach.
If SW we tend to go to the west end. illegal parking at end of road.
W-NW the eastern parking lot .
Yesterday was WNW shifting to NW
I was on 4.7 and 87 L quad.
wind was 5-30.
Very typical HN for wnw wind
WNW the wind is more consistent on the inside.
NW get very light inside but wave are cleaner and better for riding.
Good call by OC to go.
Good to see Jay and Larry.
Very fun session. Nice ride-able waves mostly waist to chest high.
Occasional sets were bigger. _________________ Read this

Nope. Blue Forester with a trailer. After all that, my lunch meeting in New Bedford went late, so I couldn't get to the beach till sunset. Figured people would be leaving by then. Glad you all had fun.
About forecasting HN wind, I live here. In May-Oct SW days, I always Beavertail to Ned's Pt, then divide by 2= Very close to wind at HN.
Colder months the wind mixes down to surface better so closer velocity to Ned's SE similar. East to ENE often stronger than anywhere else. |
