The guy clearly was a stupid a*hole. But you jerking his lines put you in exactly the same category. If you did not know what you were doing, your behavior is reckless endangerment, and you may just win the biggest a*hole title in this contest.

Talking calmly to those who misbehave is much more likely to improve the situation..

How's that working for the White House?

Benny and I chatted calmly for an hour after he stalked and deliberately rammed another sailor at speed. He is not sane, and no amount of talk is going to change that (ditto the Dangler). Why did I chat so long with Benny? To keep him there until the Sheriff arrived.

Was grabbing the guy's lines an act of aggression, self-defense, or just knee-jerk reaction to a threat? In my case it would be one of those three, as I'd have no clue what line to grab to make the kite do something. But if a kite line leading to a kite that could take off is close enough for a bystander to grab it, he is in imminent danger and any action in self-defense is excusable in my book.

I would sure would love to be calm and cool when I see a kite hit my car from a very bad choice to begin a session and then fly a kite from a small bay side State Lot with me and my car within the line range.

I flipped out. I have a reflex to set a person "right". Nothing actually happened between us that wasn't a normal human trait. Humans are fighters. We fraught with words. We shook hands as we went out to the bay to enjoy the exceptional wind.

All he did was push me down when our spat was almost done. I needed that shove.

I think he and I will still be friends. I hope for that as my wounds have healed. I'm a want'in to amend this spat and get back to having fun with one of my new friends.

I am tuff enough to take as much crap as I can dish out.

I am the kook. Thanks to everyone for your flattering comments. No doubt I deserve them all. First off, I wanted to say that the windsurfer in this situation is just generally a really good guy. I have seen him assist other kiters and windsurfers on multiple occasions. I'm very sorry my actions put him in the middle of this situation where he does not belong. I also extend an apology to anyone who feels that in any way I hampered their joy of their sport on this day.

im not here to continue participating as this entire thing is just stupid... but i am here to keep the facts straight. this statement is 100% false. i was standing right there. you grabbed the lines, and the kite crashed as a result of you interfering with them. you're both at fault. this thread should be locked.

i'll add that the sailors demeanor during this ordeal was far more calm, than that of the kiters, who would not stfu, repeatedly escalated verbal confrontation and ultimately physical contact with the sailor.
