uneven harness lines

I think most folks are stronger on one tack than the other. I notice this when battling my sailing partner. He is a little faster on starboard and me on port.

I try to adjust my lines equally to force myself to improve my weak side, the side with lines farther forward.

Some days and places it only feels right with asymmetrical line placements.

It has to do with gravity.

When one measures the electrical acceleration of the harmonic sequence, one has to take into account the boom rotation and it’s relevance to the horizontal shift in the x-y plane of the harness. If done correctly, linear refraction will double and therefore the electrons will have a coefficient drag that will equate to the resistance force in the harness line. Once established, you will have a maximum weight and length.

Now comes the important part. Divide the maximum weight by the acceleration of the carbon percentage in your boom. Once that is defined, take the flux capacitor angle and add 6. Multiply the number of beers you had in the parking lot of the previous session, minus the relative humidity of the day. Here is where most people make a mistake. They multiply the beers of the current session, not the previous session! Very important.

If done correctly, harness line length will make sense.

You would think so windoggie as I often do, but humidity is always trumped by the volume expansion of the gamma decay. It fools many. If it weren’t so, the ion magnification at the central angle would almost certainly cause faulty measurements in the line.

Thus, my guess is, the inverse concave effect is taking over. It’s like rock, paper, scissors, when in doubt go for the average velocity.

Oh that's rich....blame Coriolis now!

But you may be on to something....I bet in the Southern Hemisphere your lines would have to be just the opposite on each side of the boom if sailing the same latitude (but south) as Berkeley.

I experienced this with a soft boom head. Being asymmetric it flexed more on one side. This disappeared with a full carbon boom, same sail.

Otherwise, try backing up the side that's too far forward and compensate with your stance.

Ideally on both sides you should be able to let go of both hands using your body to steer.

It's interesting how few of the comments and suggestions take into account that he said the harness lines are different for this sail ONLY.

OK...I just went out to my truck and checked the booms I use for my 5.6 (the booms I was talking about are for my 6.2) And lo and behold, they are off too, by the same amount and on the same sides. Sorry. They are both oldish Windwing Bashes. (love those sails) That means its me, not the gear. That figures. I DO live in Berkeley, so maybe thats it. (And yes, I can take my hands off the booms on both sides)
