My son will be attending URI this fall. I may want to pop down and visit from time to time. Where are some of the better launch sites.

I live in Concord,MA

URI is pretty close to some decent launches.

For Waves: Matunuck, works in S-SWrly
Scarborough works in a NE/ENE
Flat water, ENE/NE go to Ninigret Pond
Georges/Wheeler: bump and jump inside the breakwater
URI Bay Campus: N or S, works best in opposite tides

These are all generally near URI.

Have a good time!

Fogland in Tiverton in SSE-SW. Flat inside, the river can get interesting waves when tides oppose wind. Can be a bit fluky in the fall.

Pt. Judith is also fun, worth checking out. Clean fetch, can work well in the fall for B&J or slalom.

You need to watch the tides as there can be quite a bit of current that saps the wind strength if it's going in the same direction as the wind. But when it's opposite, the conditions can be quite nice for bump and jump.

You might try Conimicut Point if the tide's right and Sandy Point in E. Greenwich has room for 6 cars in its small parking lot. Barn Island in Stonington CT can be terrific in the fall and it's not too far away from URI.

a bit more info- Matunuck works in SW and W, also E is great and ENE and ESE- WNW and NW too - though light and gusty on the inside. Scarborough is good on a strong S and SE- also NE, but very fluky inside on a NNE.. Lighthouse is great on NNE, NE and S, SSW, SW and NW- but not for the faint of heart- tough launch- both east and south sides- and a rocky minefield. (Not a spot to be underpowered unless you like to swim..) See you out there!
