storing rig underwater

Bamer, way to get my noggin thinking! I like! Zip lines, hologram possibilities, drones, rail systems.

So let me get this right. Main concern is weight of water in mast and boom for bolting to lake bottom? How much Sun can sails take if I go above water?

If its for the day, then attach the board//sail//rig to a anchor
since you are not above 5000 feet above sea level the sun would only cause minimal degradation to the components .

I am liking the anchor idea. You could always remove board and stuff it on top of sail under the boom (tie off somehow) and that may partially submerge rig.

Maybe get some superfreaks. I believe dacron holds up better than mono film in the sun.

You must be used to having it really easy. Try going WSing along the coast of remote Maui, or along the remote parts of Cal. or Or. coasts, or the Gorge, where some of the best WSing conditions can be had. Many long, tricky, sketchy trails that are a whole lot longer than 60 feet.
People do it daily as long as there is good wind.

You can easily leave the board down there. Lash lock will secure it from theft. You must cover it, or it will be toast after a couple of months, As for the rig, just de-rig it every night and store it in a durable bag or container. (maybe a 10 or 12 inch by 8 foot ABS pipe attached to the dock?) Store the boom in the board bag, and the sail, mast and base in the pipe.

One more thing to look out for if you do decide to store the rig underwater is silt/sand creeping into the moving bits of your rig and seizing things up. Your boom will probably become impossible to adjust, the extension might get stuck in the mast, europin extension buttons will seize, pulleys will freeze up, etc. All probably in way less time than you'd imagine, maybe even just your first test run.

Storing the sail in the water will destroy it. A friend of mine used to leave his sail in the water all day like you're proposing, only just tied to a small buoy. Fine silt got in the batten pockets, and the gentle rubbing wore through the batten pockets, causing the battens to pop out the sides and ruining the sail. First-hand experience, not a guess. Don't remember how long it took, and don't want to find out!
