"But I know not one person whose reason for owning guns is defense against a tyrannical government."

isobars must have forgotten the recent events in Nevada where gun toting right wing militants showed up in support of Cliven Bundy to threaten BLM officers on federal land.

I would consider myself a conservative, but in a Canadian sense. I would abolish guns in the blink of an eye if I had my say. The difference is living in Canada I am not exposed the the evils of the NRA and their propaganda, nor have I been brainwashed into thinking I have to overthrow a tyrannical government one day.

Isn't that like saying Obama -- our left-most Senator according to his Senatorial voting record -- is conservative because some extremists say he's too far right?

Sure, the NRA goes over the top. But I know not one person whose reason for owning guns is defense against a tyrannical government. That accusation is left wing media brainwashing, and is concentrated most blatantly in the neonazi enclaves of the Idaho panhandle. I'm white, so those zealots don't directly threaten me. I bought my first gun to protect my dogs from coyotes, and after it was stolen in a break-in I bought the rest to protect myself from the two-legged coyotes who threaten ME. Stick your own head in the sand all you want, but good luck imposing your own version of tyranny on the freedoms we fought, died, and STILL die for.

According to this map, Washington has more Neo-Nazi groups than does Idaho. More made up facts from Iso.

Still? When was the last time that happened?

Do you want it in minutes, hours, or days? Do you not understand the threat radical Islam poses to the free world?

Techno,
Thanks for making my point by repeating the NRA talking points on cue.
Could you show us a few of the 95% of comments by libs supporting the notion of disarming the public?
I think you will actually be surprised by a quick glimpse at the real world.
Or just ask a couple of libs. You will find them everywhere.

OK, I admit that I went off the deep end a bit. By the way I was referring to this thread only with my statement, but I did go back and read many of the earlier posts in this thread and see that we basically are going around in circles.

Yes, the right is concerned about the possibility of the government one day confiscating everything but hunting rifles and shotguns, but I personally find it almost impossible to believe it would ever happen. Nevertheless, If I owned guns, I would not want the government to know that I had them.

So if the left isn't interested in confiscation, then the only real focus for this debate should be gun sales, background checks, registrations, and what if any guns should be banned including magazine limitations. Of course, all of this has been hashed over in the beginning of this post, but we seem to go around in circles because nothing new is available to discuss. Just my summary of where we are on this topic. Maybe everyone should go back and read the first ten pages again to refresh their memories.

Enough of them in high places, including the POTUS and some senators, have stated very clearly that they do not want handguns in our hands. That remains a threat despite their limited (by public uproar) numbers.

Thank you Obama for allowing MS-13 to cross our border freely. At least we still have the right to bear arms....This poor soul sure wished knives were banned.

Here's one Reiner will appreciate.

To maintain their combat medicine skills, fresh-out-of-work military front-line medical corpsmen are being assigned to the country's most dangerous cities' hospital ERs. First in line is in Chicago.

Is that because they're so practiced in gun shot wounds or because it's dangerous. It depends how you spin it. I would say in a city like Chicago where gun deaths and injuries are so common a military med would be a great asset. Probably not much use in a city like Toronto where things are more sane and guns insanity is not part of the culture.
Part of what maintains our sanity is people not being forced into crime due to our socialized health care and wealth distribution....that and we're more chill. Great quote from "secret millionaire" today, " there's little to live for but plenty to die for when there's no hope."

It's not spin. The program is designed expressly to expose the corpsmen to frequent gunshot trauma in order to maintain their combat readiness. In the field, it's corpsmen, not physicians, who keep injured soldiers alive long enough to reach the physicians.
