Been sailing a 2000 Naish/Mistral 8'6 wave for 14 years, my low/moderate wind go to board. I love the thing. Pretty beat up after maybe 300 sessions.
Browsing ebay late at night I see and can not believe .... An UNUSED "NEw" 2000/ naish mistral 86 wave. Low ball bid and upped 50$ and it's on its way. From Montana of all places. Hope it arrives in one piece. Thinking I might want to change the tiny hull vent screw o-ring.

I have not sailed a "modern" board so don't know what I might be missing, ignorance is bliss.

Cheers JP

So are luck and informed choice. For light/moderate winds or big guys needing the float, that's a great board for B&J or waves. I have it in several sizes, and love them. Size matters, as the 8-7 turns like a school bus in comparison to the 8-5 and smaller. Getting one on the cheap is icing on the cake ... feels like a gift when one considers that I'd rather have my 2000 8-4 N/M than just about any modern board I've seen.

Jerry, there's a 8'5 on Ebay right now !

I have owned the 8'6 and 8'2 since they came out. got a 8'4 a few years ago thinking it would sit just between them. I usually carry the 8'6 and 8'4 to the beach.

Almost brand new 8'5" Naish wave tossed in junk pile at Cal Sailing Club last week. It sat there for 4 days before some club member grabbed it, but it's sitting under the sails at CSC right now, new owner not bringing it home.
I grabbed a Drops 8'2" x 55 cm wave board in B condition, 80 liters.

WSMag testing declared that specific size the workhorse, as in the best of the best, of that line of boards. They raved abut it, giving it top ratings in every category including DTL side-off to side-on, flatwater B&J, speed, comfort, big air ... you name it. It's worth hundreds to a knowledgeable sailor looking for an 84L and who values versatility and high performance. We seem to have a spoiled rich kid, a new-gear snob, a permanent novice WSer, a wised-up thief, and/or a PR sucker on our hands. That particular board could arguably be a one-board wunderquiver for a full-sized guy in the Gorge.

My 235 lbs bud loves that 8'5" Naish.
I found the nose too high.
Do you have any reports of the Drops 8'2" x 55 wave board? It looks a little fast for wave sailing, possibly better for flat water high wind work.

Yes, if that's the 2004 Wave SO 83 (248.4 cm X 55.8 cm X 83L) with red zigzags all over it. If that's the one, I'll type up the mag review.
