At just before the 51 second mark, the sailor does essentially a forward sail loop, leaving the board in the water. To me it looks purposeful, like a trick.

I started windsurfing in late 85. Windsurfing was on fire at that time. Big boards, small boards and everything in between was cool. It was a great time to get into the sport of windsurfing.

Do not stop at the 80's, though...

Back in 1978, the Dutch had their direct answer to the Beach Boys:
The Surfers' song "Windsurfing" was an international hit (Top 40 single) at just the time that Windsurfing itself was becoming an international hit.

(Although the Surfers did use Cali 'Beach Boys' references -- speaking of "cruising down Sunset Blvd with a pretty girl around my neck", rather than talking about cruising to Brouwersdam.)
