The CGWA is delighted to announce our recent acquisition of Swell City.

Through an interesting turn of events, the private owners of the historical and popular windsurfing launch, Swell City (located just west of The Hatchery), wanted to sell the one acre parcel of land, and the CGWA jumped at the chance. The CGWA Board of Directors carefully weighed and deliberated on all aspects of the purchase over the past couple of months. This process culminated at our April 17th board meeting, with input from several current Swell City users. The CGWA board of directors unanimously voted in favor of the purchase. CGWA Executive Director, Greg Stiegel, signed the paperwork on April 21st, Monday afternoon and the purchase was officially submitted Tuesday afternoon.

The CGWA is excited to continue to be a part of Gorge Windsurfing history and especially to preserve Swell City as a premier windsurfing launch in the Gorge for years to come. While a long term strategic plan for the site has not been decided, our short term goals include working with current site manager, Brenda Yeatts, in operating the site as it has been for the 2014 Gorge Windsurfing season. We are excited to get to know our Swell City constituency better and for a great summer!

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions on Swell City, please don’t hesitate to contact us at cgwa@gorge.net

I don't think CGWA can afford the price the Indians would want.

@jota

"CGWA purchased the lot for just under $33,000, using Doug’s Beach/BNSF railroad settlement funds that must be spent specifically on site access improvements by 2016. "

That relieves multiple concerns I had. Thanks.

Now how about using some of that money to get the water turned back on at Roosevelt?
