SFBA contact info is info@sfba.org |
Good idea contacting SFBA. But I wander if sandbags might be a bit of an overkill? The launch at the Stick can be pretty comfortable after the small rocks that are pushed in by the tide are removed. It has been two years since the last clean up and just removing those will go a long way ... and it takes at most a couple of hours for a dozen people, no tools, just pick them up and throw them to the sides of the launch area ...
But, Yes, cleanup!

We succeeded in widening the launch towards the east. It was a great effort with solid results. The wind came up, everyone got to sail and try new gear. Much remains to be done. Due to the limited number of volunteers we had to focus more on launch improvement. There is still lots of dangerous glass. Remember to always keep an eye out and pick up glass.
Thanks to all the volunteers. WE MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!
Special thanks to Berkeley Dave for bringing out the heavy pry bars, battle axe and Pick.

Good work on the cappuccino, I'm a cappuccino person myself . This gradual launch improvement, easy freeway access, Fog free proximity to Oakland and SF is making this The Launch on the peninsula. Steady winds yesterday saw even more new faces than ever; Easily 15 people on the water and off.
All are welcome to enjoy!

It's great to see all of this enthusiasm for this spot. As Dan said yesterday, if we take care and effort to maintain this spot, then hopefully the authorities will continue to respect our use of this site and the areas around continue to develop.
With that in mind, I just thought I'd update anyone who is interested on the Brisbane Baylands situation upwind of Candlestick along Highway 101. In January, Candlestick Preservation Association and the SFBA each submitted comments and a petition with over 150 signatures refuting the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). The DEIR argued that the Baylands development would have no impact on Candlestick windsurfing.
At this point, the public comments period is closed and the consultant is preparing responses to all of the public comments. No timeframe for when this will be complete has yet been given. After the responses have been prepared, it will be up to the public to petition the planning commission and city council if we still disagree with the proposed final EIR.
More information from Brisbane on the Baylands process is here:
http://www.brisbaneca.org/baylands-information
and the public comments can be accessed here:
http://www.brisbaneca.org/deir-comments
You can keep up to date through this Facebook group if interested:
https://www.facebook.com/SaveTheStick
and more information and the particulars of the public comments submitted in support of Candlestick windsurfing can be found here:
http://www.keepitwindy.org/
Thank you,
Brad
