Re-opening of Lake Hodges for windsurfing sounds awesome. But what is source of this rumor? The City of San Diego Lakes and Recreation Website at http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/fishbulletin.shtml still states: "There is NO windsurfing permitted."

Not a rumor.

- There has been email communications between the SDWA and "the powers that be" confirming the lake will be open for windsurfing on April 2
- They have placed buoys in the lake with "give way to sail craft" markings in the sailing area

The web site is out of date. Who knows when they will change it.

Andrew, thanks for replying!
In the meantime, I've also found two City of San Diego websites that confirm that Lake Hodges will be open again for windsurfing:

http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/reservoirs/hodges.shtml
I quote:
"Beginning April 2, 2014 boardsailing will be allowed during the regular recreation schedule on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Boardsailing recreation at Hodges will reflect several changes since it was last offered in 2008 please see Private Boats and Watercraft for current rules and regulations."

http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/watercraft/privateboats.shtml
I quote:
"Boardsailing will be allowed during the regular recreation schedule at Hodges only on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Boardsailing recreation will reflect several changes since it was last offered in 2008:

- Periodic patrols will be conducted by City reservoir staff.
- All vessels, including boardsailing boards, must be inspected for quagga mussels by City reservoir staff at the Quagga Inspection Station prior to entering the reservoir (Quagga Inspection Station is located near the boat launch ramp).
- All boardsailers must sign a waiver of liability (waiver available at the Quagga Inspection Station) prior to entering the reservoir.
- All boardsailers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal floatation device.
- $7.00 launch fee must be paid at the electronic pay station or iron ranger located near the Quagga Inspection Station prior to entering the reservoir.
- The former boardsailing parking area by the new pump station is unavailable due to safety concerns.
- Boardsailers may enter the reservoir from the boat launch ramp or shoreline.
- No one, including recreational users, may disturb any vegetation or other natural feature along the Hodges shoreline.
- All reservoir Rules and Regulations must be followed at all times. These rules are available from staff at the Quagga Inspection Station and at kiosks near the concession building."

Quite a few rules...

G.

Wow that's all I can say. Thanks for finding that. I think.
It looks like the bureaucrats are having the last laugh by making it so difficult to go sailing no one will bother. It's like a bad joke and its clearly punishment for all the pressure that was put on them.
That pretty much ruined my weekend. Sad

So if you have to launch at the Boat Ramp, which is quite a way from the Dam doesn't that in effect make the "whole lake" a boardsailing area? Sailing to the "sailing area" requires you transit a little over half of the lake to get to and from the "Dam Area".

By "half the lake" I mean half of the area that currently contains water. The blue area on the map is not an accurate representation of current water levels.

First, I would like to say “thank you” to all who have posted info here.

It is sad ,but expected that Government has created difficulty for the Owners of Lake Hodges{Us}.Although they are now nice enough to let us use our lake....

“Boardsailers may enter the reservoir from the boat launch ramp or shoreline”

Last time we had Formula races at Hodges we launched at Hernandez Hideaway and plowed our way up to the windline.

Might be a few ways to navigate through ...

#1..... Tow your small kit behind a Longboard,Kayak or Formula Board to the windline.

#2....Use a boat to transport many kits up to the windline/rigging area.

#3 ..pack your kit in from the road above the windline/rigging area.

#4...Bike your kit in through the many bike trails?

Something positive will come from this...just wait and watch.
