To answer Justall, they transition well depending on the set up of the drift. An inch or two of fluffy stuff and you don't even notice. A couple inches of wind hardened drift can stop you in your tracks. Anything in-between that you can be ready for with some knee bend. More than a couple inches of snow and it will slow you a lot, and you will accumulate snow on the board.

Thanks. Good description. I've thought I've seen those knee bends in various ice videos suggesting some drfting can create drag. Haven't tried the frozen version of windsurfing yet myself, but have been thinking about it. I'd probably put on all my old hockey pading for it though.

We all had a great day out on Great Herring pond on Sunday! ...finally...
I think this site will be around for a few weeks, and will likely be the furthest east/south we see local Cape ice. not bad, considering the last 3 years have been skunked down this ways. I'll take it!

Some of our most radical SPEED days have been on this little gorge sheet, winds from a building NE gale will run right down the center, but at 60+mph, all you can do is run the gust away for a 1/2 mile and then round up to hide in the lee before ya get blown off the ice!

We're having a fantastic winter sailing season in Rhode Island. Check out this video from today!

Way cool
Props to the pilot for a steady camera and great perspective!

Cool Sweet vid! I'd like to see that quad copter... Can it be flown when it's blowing 20 mph? That would make some great footage.

Outcast, I love your new ride! All you need are some "proper" blades and you'll be kicking butt.

Now that we have ice... we're waiting on the wind!

Yes the copter is way cool. Give it a GPS coordinate and it will fly there and hold position while you work the camera while watching the video real time. 20 mph wind might be pushing the envelope a bit though.
