I guess the news never reached Belize............ALL the entities investigated by the IRS were 501(c).

And virtually all the entities whose projects and approval were literally and deliberately stonewalled for years were identified by key words the IRS associated with conservative viewpoints. Source? Fox? No; the FIRS.

They were all 501c and none were seeking tax exempt status?
That is an amazing fact, since the entire problem was their tax exempt status. That did not reach Belize for sure.
That " fact "does not appear in a search either.
Could you show us where you learned this?

A 501(c) is, by definition, a tax exempt entity. The applicants were seeking 501(c) status either as 501(c)4s or some possibly as 501(c)3s. I suggest you educate yourself a little more on the topic. Try to understand the difference between the tax status of the donor and that of the 501(c) recipient. When you feel equipped to ask an informed question, please do get back to us.

Still an arrogant prick, more interested in showing off (and spinning) than educating:

A couple of reading suggestions that might help:

"How to Express Anger at Being Caught in a Lie Without Resorting to Vulgarity" by Phil McCracken

"Ten Reasons to Have Some Knowledge of a Topic Before Commenting Publicly" by Major Woody.

Alas, I must now leave you all and get back to the real world of shoveling global warming.

Perhaps a little more complicated than smugness supports. Here from a non-oiled source:

Quote:

Source: Center Collection
Published: May 2002

"While there is an absolute prohibition on 501(c)(3) organizations participating or intervening in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to candidates for public office, organizations can engage in a relatively significant amount of lobbying activity if carefully conceived and managed." So begins Jeffrey Tenenbaum's, Attorney with Venable Baetjer Howard & Civiletti, overview of lobbying activities as they pertain to
501(c)(3)s.

Nonprofit organizations that qualify for federal income tax exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the "Code") have the most favorable tax status, but they also have the most restrictions on government affairs activities. To maintain their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, these organizations must avoid all political campaign activities and must keep lobbying within permissible limits. While there is an absolute prohibition on 501(c)(3) organizations participating or intervening in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to candidates for public office, 501(c)(3) organizations can engage in a relatively significant amount of lobbying activity if carefully conceived and managed....

Conclusion

Associations exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(3) must keep lobbying activities within specified limits. Grassroots lobbying is limited more than direct lobbying. To avoid incurring liability for excise taxes or loss of tax-exempt status, care should be taken to ensure compliance with the expenditures test under Section 501(h) and to enable such associations to take advantage of the opportunities provided by these rules.

Of course some organizations--like the Catholic and evangelical churches--push well over these lines, counting on the lack of enforcement--and political support--to squelch complaints.

So enlightening to read the comments from the far right of the country. So detailed and full of clear explanations.

WSJ article on bipartisan effort to stop using the IRS as a weapon against conservatives is at http://tinyurl.com/lcpsdlk .

From this and other sources, 100% of entities being audited and/or grilled by the IRS as an anti-conservative WMD had the words "Tea Party" or "Patriot" in their paperwork. This was directed by Schumer and Durbin, to the outrage of many Democratic congressmen and the ALCU.

Among the false ideas idiots believe is that the IRS only targeted conservatives. It is easy to research that lie.
Why do so any on the right keep on with HS regardless of the truth?
Conservatives once sought the truth. Our principles did not welcome leaders
Ike the GOP congressman who lately said rape wad OK if abortion was legal.
He will get reelected by GOP voters anyway.
It wasn't like this on the right a few years ago.

Back on point. A fairly clear and simple explanation for the "hiatus" in warming in the Economist:

Quote:
When cold water meets hot air
Feb 22nd 2014 | From the print edition

THE rise in greenhouse-gas emissions means oceans are playing a bigger role in regulating the climate. In parts of the Pacific Ocean, huge upwellings from the bottom bring cold water from the depths and push warm surface water down. According to a new study in Nature Climate Change by Matthew England of the University of New South Wales and others, higher air temperatures are strengthening east-west trade winds at equatorial latitudes in the Pacific and speeding up this vast churn, sequestering heat that would otherwise have warmed the Earth’s surface. This, they say, explains much of the recent slowdown in the rise of surface temperatures that has puzzled climate scientists since it began in 1998.

The slowdown is clearly good news. But it may not last. Oceans also absorb carbon dioxide, which dissolves in sea water. They are the world’s biggest carbon sink. But there are limits to their absorptive capacity. A study in Nature by Samar Khatiwala and others in 2009 said their uptake of carbon dioxide declined by about 10% after 2000. That is disturbing. Less carbon in the oceans means more in the atmosphere—and implies that, at some point, the rise in surface temperatures is likely to resume.
