As of 2007 Perkins sits on the board of directors of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation,[12]

Tom Perkins:
Wiki:
He was made a Ridder (knight) of the Order of St. Olav in Norway in 2000, in appreciation of earlier philanthropic contributions. This does not constitute a title, as Norway abolished nobility in 1821.

The Order of St. Olav:
Wiki:
It is awarded to individuals as a reward for remarkable accomplishments on behalf of the country and humanity.

Techno--do you really believe taxes are too low if a rich asshole can spend nearly a half million on a watch! Did you really defend him?

Not that I agree with buying a watch for $380 K but then my net worth is not $8 billion either so I can't relate. To give that some scale, Tom Perkins net worth is $8 billion. Him buying a $380 K watch is the equivalent of a person earning $100 K spending $4.75. The homeless guy begging for your change outside of Starbucks might think the same of you.

I bet most of us have close to, or greater than, $10K in windsurfing or sporting gear. BTW, Richard Mille sells watches in the millions, perhaps Perkins thought he was being modest.

And the kind of watch he'll buy for $380K will probably appreciate to $500K in a year or two.

Believe me, it's not a Timex.

A $25 Timex will be worth $5 tomorrow.

And the $1 M+ vacation Obama took with taxpayer's money is worth $0 the next day. What's Bill Gates' house worth? Is it increasing in value? Or is that OK because he gives "coffee money" of his $63B net worth to charity? You think Gates has some pretty "out there" stuff too?

If you ask me, I prefer the one's who do it with their hard earned money and not taxpayer's money, but then that's a touchy subject with me because I've watched my municipal CAO neighbour doing just that outside my office window for the last 15 years.

Assuming this Perkins guy earned his money honestly and paid taxes on it, it's nobody's business beside his what (legal) bling he spends it on. Anyone who's jealous can damned well work harder and smarter to earn more money, and has zero right to demand Perkins or any other taxpayer just give him money because "IWANNIT!". Besides, most millionaires got to be millionaires by spending less, not earning more, than ordinary people. Anyone who smokes, buys $100 sneakers, or eats popcorn at movies has no right to whine about his economic situation.

Did I ever say taxes were too low on the rich? That wasn't the topic, but you frequently twist topics toward YOUR rants which seems to be the norm.

reinerehlers nailed it. It isn't any of your freeking business if a guy worth 8 billion buys an expensive watch. I guess your socialist, jealous side is showing.

Are all rich folks "assholes", or just the ones buying expensive watches?

There is perhaps no phenomenon which contains so much destructive feeling as 'moral indignation,' which permits envy or hate to be acted out under the guise of virtue.
