Any one ride The 2013 Hawk 111 bamboo. I need a new flat water lake board. Most concerned about the board lasting more than a year like the last board I had....

The Hawk is a B&J board. Fast & maneuverable with better rocker then the Futura front & back. For a 170 lb sailor the board is great with 5.0-6.0 three strap setup with 28-32 cm wave type fins, or 6.5-7.5 with four strap setup & 34-40 cm slalom fins.

The Futura is a speed board that goes upwind & downwind better then the Hawk. The Futura will run slightly larger sails & be happier with larger slalom fins & a four strap setup for the entire sail range 5.5-8.0. Longer drawn out jibes but with more speed. Able to do some freestyle on it but not as good as the Hawk.

Both boards have good durability. My 2010 Hawk & 2008 Futura are both going strong.

Coachg. Do you have the wood or carbon boards?

For the Hawk I chose wood for the softer ride as I don't use that board much in flat water. For the Futura I chose wood because the only other choice was technora back in 2008. I bought my Futura for flat water blasting so if I was buying one today it would likely be carbon.

Tony:

Don at Worldwinds rents the Hawk in the "bamboo/wood". I'm sure one of the staff can tell you about the durability of the new boards as well. You've got my contact info as well if you need any additional information.

Mike- Lopez Lake.
