I forget the proper way to leave a windsurfer on the beach so it doesn't blow away. I remember using a position that can withstand serious winds. Can someone post a picture or describe how the sail is supposed to be positioned? I believe board should be upside down, front facing wind at slight angle so the wind hits the bottom and deflects up. Also, if sail has battens, do they go up or down? Thanks for your help.

Old pic, the wind is going in the direction you are looking (from the back), at about 25 mph, and don't worry about the battens, the sail usually adjusts itself in that regard.

If there are other sails nearby on the beach, I've been taught the board is placed nose to wind with the fin down & deck up. The wind will then push the board down and nearby sails that might flip over are protected from being impaled on my fin. Also the battens on the sail should be down so the foil curve is concave. When the battens are up (convex foil) the wind could be able to get under the sail and lift it. I always make sure the battens are pushed down, they are not loose enough on my sails to be sure the wind would do it.

That is true, but not as efficient, and that is why we always place our stuff as shown.
A) To teach the others around how to do it, they should pay attention.
B) If their stuff gets hurt by placing it down incorrectly, it's their fault, lesson learned.

Works good for kites as well, it shows them where not to land their kites.
Harsh? Naa, we were there long before them, and we have no hassles, we get along quite well.

Agreed nw30. That is exactly what I remember. Fins up. If the wind shifts, everyone needs to re-evaluate. Thanks! On our beach it can be a little chaotic sometimes (rarely) because it is protected and the winds can swirl. No big deal.
