Anyone know a good way to remove deck pads without scratching up the surface?

Thanks

I suggest you SEARCH the forum using something like deck pad remove as key words, with the All Terms and Posts buttons selected. We've seen several excellent ideas on just this challenge.

Yeah that worked. I was hoping you would just tell me the answer Mike instead of making me plow through all the cruff that Search returns. I noticed you were on the discussion thread. Smile

Anyway, got what I needed. Thanks.

one of the current threads.

I don't think you CAN remove without scratching, gouging yes.

It really depend on how the adhesive is stuck, a razor blade scraper, with heat added prior and during would be my method, but some of the sticky stuff will remain. Sticky stuff: Paint thinner, goo gone, lacquer thinner would all take it off, maybe

If there were one right answer, I would have just typed it. But IIRC there were 3 or 4 solutions with merit.

Be careful if you use lacquer thinner, it will melt just about anything, pretty toxic, too, but makes a good last resort. Xylene will melt just about any adhesive, and is relatively mild, it's what car detailers use to take tar off your paint.

Hey U2U2U2, what is "Rights in Rodanthe"?

Although I haven't tried on pads, try using a guitar string (unwound, straight steel string) and saw it off. Any adhesive left behind can be removed with Bestine. It should be fine but test it on a small area first.

fresh, i.e. sharp single-edge razorblade, see http://www.boardlady.com/extrainserts2.htm
and keep those chemicals away from your boards! even if they don't melt important stuff, they may well keep your subsequent repairs from sticking as they should

shown on the boardladys site link, you can hardly get away with out some scratches,

the use of chemicals I agree are not user friendly , Xylene among them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylene

Since you will sand off the area anyway I cant see that those would cause the contact cement to NOT stick. It is not being applied to the PVC, so it not going to melt the top layer, or layers.

maybe kerosene instead ?

Rodanthe is one of the 3 villages on the northern end of Hatteras, Outer Banks, OBX.

Rights is they way the waves break, mostly

its a take on the movie that was filmed in part there, the house is kinda famous and was moved back away from the intruding ocean
