I so wish they built a modern version of my VW Vanagon. It has 10' of cargo area behind the front seats, and close to 12' overlapping the front. I carry my 11' SUP inside with room to spare! The Transit in comparison looks like a bit an overkill to me ... and you would have to buy the longest wheelbase to get close to the space available on the Vanagon Shocked

I bought the 5.4 liter V-8 because I tow a 24' travel trailer a lot, something like 5,000 pounds. The new V-6 should be able to tow it as well, only with much better mileage!

Viva la Technologie! (made-up French, don't speak a word)

no, no, that has less cargo room than my 1987 Vanagon! Embarassed but I did not know VW still had a transporter .. better than the Ford Transporter dimension wise and with a smaller engine rated at 28 mpg, nice. But still the long version "only" has 275 cm cargo room in the back. New one coming to US in 2015 http://www.autoevolution.com/news/new-t6-volkswagen-transporter-coming-in-2015-57469.html

This looks more like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM81YWrXTW0 T7 scheduled (in Europe) for 2017? Another option is to build a 60 cm extension! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIG9P0lB1iA

I am still driving my 2004 E350 Quigley. I have been trying to figure out if the euro T frame will be as tough as the E frame Fords.[Ford is keeping the E frame on 450 and larger; i.e. box trucks] These are not legal on NY's Parkways. These new T frame trucks remind me of the Sprinter and the Nissan Vans. It sure seems like the added height would be nice. The T will come in 3 height choices. But they are narrower than the E.

I am hessitant, because I have to be able to actually drive on the beach. So I like manual "lockers", a wide durable platform, and a little more clearance. As much as I love my van, I was thinking trading in for a 2014 E350 while they are still making them.

I spoke with the chief engineer at quigley [they are now converting the Nissan vans to 4x4] and he raved about the ride. But that's probably because they are not lifting them...yet. The NV is a lot cheaper than the sprinter,[the Sprinter is only AWD] which is probably good enough for most people.

Or I have to switch to Chevy. Quigley did the Baja 1,000 in a Chevy this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfFXryhAN90

Don't know if this is helping anyone or I am just talking to myself...

my sprinter has a on the fly dual wheel drive for dicey driving conditions. some may call it a limited slip differential. all i know is i don't get stuck.
