I used to encounter my share of menace windsurfers; but they all kite now. I say that in a Half joking manner.

Doesn't matter what your sport of interest is, there are idiots everywhere. See it Skiing, boating, kayaking, fishing ... The answer is not to close the _____. I bet too much financial interest here for people not to work things out.

kiters are way more apt to be more visible and to encompass more people within their realm of danger. coupled with testosterone, we've got stupid and dangerous with a 90 foot radius. quite a few venues in florida have been closed to all wind powered water craft because of kiting, PERIOD.

solutions? crandon park in miami has one. not perfect, but better than one could imagine. some stupid, supposed crack addict literally was hospitalized by a beat down when he nearly got the kiting community kicked out for the second time at that park for flipping off lifeguards and fellow kiters when he was told to adhere to the rules of the park.

remember the tropical storm kay kiter? the one thwacked against a hotel. his case become such a highly visible one that the sailing vendor on the beach was kicked off his concession after that nationally known incident. that kiter was infamous for showing off by boosting himself on the upper beach for nearly half his sessions. the stupid never stops.

JKrug I am not "saying" the kiter's screwed it up. They did screw it up. This is not subjective.

here's a quote from the kiteforum regards this issue and some history of the area, while trying to get petitions signed to keep access:

"...Recall the one disaffected windsurfer who managed to get kiting banned for two years off the North Shore"

that's not subjective, either. that's fact. so get off your stinking high horse. i have no ill will towards any windsurfers...unless they give me good reason. stupidity and elitism are two such good reasons.

there never was a problem until someone invented Jumpy-Castles

Sure, some poor dude diving for tako would get occasionally mowed by a windsurfer, but once those jumpy castles moved in.... it was over.....!!!!!

it's so over

Luckily there is still lots of other self absorbed stuff to do on Maui.

I kite alone.....
With nobody else......
And when I kite alone I prefer to be by myself......

And no Krug I do not remember kiting banned on the whole North Shore.
Which North Shore?

Truth is I hate to see anything banned that is fun.

THEY ARE THE PROBLEM!!!

They are huge, unsafe to launch....and you need at least 3 people to land them.

Now, i'm not saying that you can't have fun with them, but there are people who set them up just anywhere at Kanaha....near the grass/rigging area, and close to the sail rinsing shower thingys. Every renter knows that you have to rinse your fully rigged sail in the shower every day....even if there is a County wide water shortage

Jumpy Castles make that.... well.....just uncomfortabe

This never used to be an issue when it was just windsurfers, and tako divers

Now on the weekend it's like 10 jumpy castles to every rentabeater

Plus smelling all the grill smoke and grinds is a terrible way to start your sesh

Plus da chickens!

Remember when it was just the cats?

Well some well intentioned haole-hippy animal lovers started neutering them with bad food, so of course, now there's all kine chicken runnin around

It's just a calamity

At least they eat the centipedes

None of this would have happened if the kiters didn't lurk on this forum
