Now you can keep up with your favorite local tiger sharks on Maui with this cool new online app. They even have catchy names like "133361".

It is pretty cool. Not sure it will help us from gettin' chomped on though.

Interesting. Many of them seem to prefer the "calm" waters South of the islands. Maybe more food there?

So... tracking sharks, tracking your heart beat, footsteps, etc. Reminds me of Cisco's "Internet of everything" where all is underway to be tracked/ measured/ reported. Soon, track your own "flatulences" to report DIRECTLY to your FACEBOOK page which will then link DIRECTY to your Doctor who will DIRECTLY pass a prescription to your pharmacy! Awe-some! Big Brother is definitely here!

More seriously, this is fascinating how the "internet of everything" is busy shaping the planet! Sail on in the meantime... Smile

In reply to Noel, according to the Maui News:

"A research team commissioned by the University of Hawaii visited the Valley Isle last month and reportedly caught, tagged and released 15 tiger sharks in waters off Maui's south shore. Eight of the sharks were equipped with dorsal-fin mounted satellite transmitters that intermittently track the shark's location over time when its dorsal fin breaches the surface of the water, according to the announcement."

So, the fact that you're seeing the sharks on the south side likely reflects that that's where these sharks were initially tagged. We might see different data if the tagging were done on the north shore.

And since they only get a signal when the dorsal fin is out of the water means we miss a lot of their movements.

I'm betting 133371 is the one that got the kiter.

I'm also betting that because we are tagging them, they are tagging us... Smile
