Oh Man September is here which means the last few weeks of wind along the west coast before La Ventana Season hits in November!! Getting so stoked for the Baja, going through photos from last season and droooooolllling!

Tyson and I are going to pack everything up in the Bay October 10th or so and then head down to the Wave Sailing and SUPing paradise of Punta San Carlos Baja. We have 2 back to back clinic weeks there with solosports.net which are going to be a total blast.

The weeks are October 19-26 and 26th - Nov 2nd.

Both weeks are in combo with the Windsport Mag Gear Test, so if you want a chance to check out the 2014 stuff from all the brands San Carlos is going to be the place to do it. We are also combining the camps with our sponsors Makani Fins who will have all the sweetest fins down there to try out. Its gonna be a GEAR-O-THON!!!!

If you have never been in the waves there is no easier place on earth to learn to wavesail. Its like a skatepark for windsurfers, the wave is slow and crumbly not pitching like Maui or Cali and the side-offshore wind means you have tons of power in your sail on the wave face and it is super easy to get back up wind/ up wave after your mile long ride.

Then Nov 2nd after the last crew leaves we high tail it down to La Ventana to open up our place there freshly stocked with 2013 and 2014 Naish Gear!!

We are running a extra cheap November Special this season since that is our lowest occupancy month. Its also our favorite month because the water is so warm you can take a swim at night after a couple frosty brews, and you sail and snorkel with no suit. Plus the desert is crazy green and alive which makes all the ATV trips super fun. Sometimes sailing there in NOvmber you look back at the hills and it looks like Maui its so green.

Plus town is pretty empty so you have the whole place to yourself.

Ahhhhh I can't wait to head down to Baja!!!

Hey Guys just started looking through this thread and gotta say it looks like a pretty good time. Not sure my old bones and can take the sand boarding but I would love to watch the carnage!

Your November special looks pretty tempting, what do you suggest for a single guy? And whats the water temp down there that time of year??

I took your board repair clinic earlier this summer and have made some good use of the skill already...(unfortunately)

Oh no Jim more Nose dings?? D'oh. We gotta get you learning the forward loop self-catapult drill so you can just huck it over the front when you feel like you are getting yanked. We can work on that in Baja!

November is my favorite month down there for sure, the water is crazy warm like mid 70's so you can sail all day in boarshorts no wetsuit needed.

Also the nights are super warm so you can go SUP at night and swim its the perfect temp.

Wind is pretty solid maybe some days are 5.4 where the colder water would make them 5.0 in January but I'll take a half sail size up for perfect water temps.

Also the sportsfishing is insane down there in November with tons of Dorado / Mahi-mahi.

Also there is water in the waterfalls up in the hills which are super fun to check out on the quads. And town is pretty quiet.

For those traveling solo I usually just recommend on of the "Small Casitas" its all you really need, unless you want to bit more space then one of the "Big Casitas" would work.

And with the November Special either one is a steal. Come on down buddy!

Wyatt

Here we go again! Our 4th season is under way and we will be keeping you up to date with all the epic sailing days and great times South of the border.

October 13th Tyson and I started packing our new trailer for the trip south. Stopped by Panda Express to grab some to go dinner for the all evening packing mission which yealded some epic fortunes for our winter in Baja (see photo). The next morning we headed down the 5 all the way to Ensenada crossing the border without a hitch. We find its actually safer to stay in Ensenada with a flatbead trailer full of toys since they have all night security in the parking lot of most hotels, unlike even the fanciest hotels in San Diego…..and people say Mexico is dangerous.
Woke up early the next morning and headed in to El Rosario to get some new tires on the dirtbikes and ditch our trailer at a friends house in town, that way we would not have to drag it all the way into Punta San Carlos on the dirt road. I rode the moto from El Rosario a ways into PSC with Tyson following behind in the van and was stoked as ever to see our Pro-Windsurf La Ventana sticker still on the San Carlos sign. The PSC dirt-road was pretty bad, but luckily we had been warned to take the cutoff and come in North of camp instead of the usual pinball alley way. Arrived at Solosports to a warm welcome, and some tasty Baja Fogs which we would be enjoying heartily the rest of the trip.
We had 2 weeks of wavesailing and SUP clinics set up and as the planes full of guests came roaring onto the dirt airstrip, the wind was not far behind them. Everybody got out on the water just minutes after getting out of the planes. Once again San Carlos turned out to be the best place ever to learn and improve your wavesailing. Its so crazy to see people start out the week zipping back and forth in windsurf stance not catching waves, and running away from breaking lips when they do catch them. Then by the end of the week after lots of on and off water instruction and after dinner video reviews everyone is catching waves, building speed quickly pumping the top half of the wave, going deep into their bottom turns, and coming right back at lips hitting them hard. The only problem is by the end of the week I find myself getting out positioned for priority on the wave by the students left and right, but I guess that means we are doing a good job.
We saw a serious bump in swell on Wednesday and Thurdsay and people were charging. Got some good snaps from the San Carlos master photog Clark Merritt (see below). We had tow incredible weeks of SUPing in the morning, Windsurfing and MTBing in the afternoon and sharing Baja Fogs and dinner with all the stoked guests every evening. Both weeks we had the awesome Makani Fin guys down with us, and they brought along a videographer, Nico, who brought all the video equipment including the biggest quadcopter I had ever seen. He was even gutsy enough to fly the expensive thing out over the water and get some killer SUP video. He is putting together a video on the trip and we will be sure to put a link up here when its done.
On November 3rd we headed out of PSC and cruised the dusty road into El Rosario to repack the trailer and spend the night before our long haul from there to Loreto. On the PSC road we encountered some pretty interesting graffiti (see photo). Tyson was on it with the driving flawlessly maneuvering our wide trailer past oncoming semis, while I suffered in the passenger from a bad street taco I had in El Rosario. We arrived in La Ventana on the 5th to some cranking 5.0 wind, the dust was blowing down the LV road so hard we couldn’t contain our excitement. Hopped out of the van and started furiously unloading the trailer trying to find our freestyle gear. We were crazy stoked to find our Mexican protégés Moi and Julian already on the water tearing it up, and they told us they had already had 3 good days this November. We got down to business yesterday to get the gear sheds up and the gear rigged just in time for our first guest to arrive today.

It has been a windy November already and it looks like we have a bunch of wind in this weeks forecast. Not to mention Mike Godsey from iwindsurf is calling for a El Nino/La Nina neutral year which means super consistent strong winds for La Ventana.

Mexicoooo!!! Just got done with two weeks of wave clinics with Solo Sports, at Punta San Carlos, Baja Mexico. Had so much fun I don't know where to start. We got there two days before camp, with all the toys you could ever want. Windsurfing gear, surfboards, SUP's, mtn. bikes, dirt bikes, golf clubs... the list goes on and on. The waves were small on our first day, so Solo Sports host, Kevin Trejo, took us on a moto ride up the coast. We had a blast flying around on the dirt roads and checking out all the other possible breaks further North. Kevin soon left us when we found a little "jump park" to rally until we almost ran out of gas! Good start to the trip.

The next day it was time to start the clinic. We had a solid crew of really good sailors, making it a blast to push everyone, and get them ripping in the waves. By mid week, the swell had pumped in a bit more, allowing our students to put all our tips to the test. It looked like it was working because everyone was ripping! The waves stuck around for a couple more days, keeping everyone really happy, but really tired. Week one in the books with a whole new crew of stoked sailors!

Week number 2 started out exactly the same way. Waves were a bit small at the start, but as the week went on, they grew a bit, making for another solid week of sailing. There were a couple days with not very much wind, but still some waves, allowing everyone to get out on the SUP's and rip it up. Everyone improved so much, it was insane! Good SUP sessions in the morning, followed by some lunch, and right back out on the same wave, but now with some wind, making the transition to wave sailing a piece of cake! Once again, the waves backed off a bit at the end of the week, allowing everyone to push themselves to their limits. After running 2, or even 3 sport days, the whole crew was beat at the end of the week. Nothing like a nice Baja Fog to top it all off!

Stoked to come away with some more amazing memories from another great trip with Solo Sports at Punta San Carlos! See you guys on the water!

Life has been good and windy down here for the last couple of days and it is filling in already this morning for a repeat. Been powered up on my 5.4 Boxer all afternoon. Yesterday we had a great freestyle session with one of our guests Ed coming through on a bunch of clean spocks right off the beach. Tyson was hamming it up for the camera on the beach blowing kisses with his well groomed mustache. We also had our young protégé Freddy ripping it up and it looks like all his sailing prowess has got his little sister Joules working on here waterstarts. She was coming real close and the determination was great to see so I jumped in the water and gave here some pointers and a little help and she popped out of the water right away. Stoked to see some young blood out here in LV and its going to be a blast watching here improve and catch up to here brother this season.

By the end of last season we were getting pretty comfortable handling scorpions. If you sneak up behind them and grab them by the stinger you can pick them up without getting stung. Gets the heart rate going for sure. The scorpion pick up game turned into taking scorpion shots last year; placing a live scorpion on your hand, with a shot glass full of tequila between your fingers and then trying to take the shot without getting stung. We put Tyson’s first scorpion shot up on youtube last season :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiasuoxmyEs

The scorpion shots we took the other night involved a much bigger guy. Check the photo below of Tyson locked and loaded.
Oh looks like our man Joseph, the fresh squeezed juice, doughnut and bread guy just pulled into the driveway for his biweekly delivery. Breakfast is here, gotta run! But stay tuned, we are off on a sportsfishing trip tomorrow morning with our local captain Lalo.

You guys are absolutely INSANE in the MEMBRANE. If you could bottle some of that stoke and sell it your Panda fortune would come true.

Don't forget to stop at Cabrillo on your way North next spring and rattle everyone's cages again.

Big thanks to you and Tyson for another GREAT trip! Off roading in the quad, days of sailing in warm waters, cold beers, and finishing off with an awesome fishing trip reeling in the Dorados. Fresh fish for dinner!

One of our guests was super stoked to do some sportsfishing so Tyson and I hired our local fish slaying captain Lalo for a day of sports fishing. $240 for the boat for a day is a steal for some full service fishing. Lalo knows all the spots and has all the gear. We have literally seen the guy put a sardine on a hook throw it in the water and say "watch this" as he counts to 3 and the thing gets nailed by a massive dorado.

We rolled to the boat ramp a little sleepy at 5:30AM and since we have never been early before we were getting a little worried when he was no where to be found by 5:50. But sure enough the boat came roaring out of the darkness at 6:00 (when he was supposed to meet us). We joked with him about beating him to the launch, but he laughed and told us he was out at 3:00AM catching some Balleyhoo for bait and hat nailed it bringing in about 35 of them to use as bait all day. The guy is AMAZING!!

We cruised about 45 minutes North past the North tip of the island to a seamountain they call La Reina (The Princess). From there it was a full day fish slaying where we ended up with 5 nice size dorado (Mahi Mahi) a couple of Bonito tuna and a few too many needle fish for our liking.

Such a blast. Followed by a massive fish cookout back at the compound.
