Let's evaluate the signs of addiction:
1) Relationship Problems: Check (spousal strain on windy days)
2) Financial Problems: Check (new board vs. eating on Wednesdays)
3) Social Sacrifices: Check (can't make your party, its in October)
4) Excess Consumption: Check (I can totally windsurf at night...)
5) Dropping Activities: Check (no more stamp collecting)
6) Obsession: Check (checking iwindsurf 30 times a day)
7) Taking Risks: Check (Hurricane Sandy...let's rig!)
Denial: Uncheck (Nope, I don't have windsurfing problem)
As you can plainly see, windsurfing can't be an addiction... just call it a habit...

Just two years, and you've been engaged for so long.
Dude, you are just at the beginning of a very loooooong relationship that has lasted much longer than most marriages.
I speak from experience, on the second one now, and she gets it, thank god. |

Looking at dcharlton's signs of addiction list:
1) Relationship Problems: Nope. 2nd spouse is a windsurfer.
2) Financial Problems: Nope. All that windsurfing does not leave time to spend money on other things.
3) Social Sacrifices: Nope. All my friends are windsurfers. I see them every windy weekend.
4) Excess Consumption: Nope. I missed at least 2 sailable days last week. I don't miss sleep, either, unless the forecast is really good.
5) Dropping Activities: What activities?
6) Obsession: Ok, I'll admit this one.
7) Taking Risks: Nope. Staying away from kites. Not doing anything crazy that might hurt me so I can't sail.
Denial: Nothing to deny. |

Well I deny that I deny denial! (I think - just got up, and brain not in gear.)
It's no joke being in a constant state of near nervous breakdown owing to an inability to do it ALL at once. (Long board, short board - sub categories surfing, B&J, slalom, or just 'lawn mowing')
I frequently cogitate this insurmountable problem which causes me so much misery, especially when I'm blasting down some mountain side on the bike - an equal addiction of itself!
Why must we make life so complicated? My neighbour just sits on his hooter all day long watching tele. He doesn't have my problem.
Oh, the injustice of it all. That's what windsurfing has done for me. (Bah!) |

Dude, your answer to number 1 doesn't make sense. You have obviously had relationship problems if your 2nd spouse is a windsurfer.
just havin' fun with ya. |

Dude, I did not have relationship problems in my first marriage - I had problems! I windsurfed perhaps 4 times a year in a good year. That's about 100 sessions short from what I need for emotional stability . I leave it to you to imagine the consequences (don't go overboard - I did not get addicted to other things or go to jail).
To quote Coach Ned (who'll probably read this lying face down): "It's all good" (now). |

boardsufr,
duly noted. I got a good chuckle from your response. Your current spouse is an excellent windsurfer, you are a fortunate dude! |
