Interesting you would say that. Have you actually seen E in person? No you're not going to fit a 12 foot SUP inside, but few vehicles would. I find the E has much more useable cargo capacity than just about any other "SUV". It isn't going to beat out a full size van or a gutted out, dedicated mini- van for storage space, but as a multi-purpose windsurf vehicle, I think it works pretty darn well, especially for solo sailing. I can easily fit three boards inside with my largest being a 117L slalom/free ride board. Four boards could probably be squeezed in but honestly, if I can't get on the water with one of three boards, there's something seriously wrong. Larger boards can be tossed up on the roof rack. I can fit rigs in up to 8 meter and 490 masts. With the E packed, there is still room to crawl in the back and put on a wetsuit. The fold flat seats and removable rear seats make it very versatile for other non-windsurfing functions as well. And last but not least- it ain't a mini-van! |

having trouble finding wheelbase lengths of the new transit connect which looks nice. the only thing I don't esp. like about my dodge ram van is how high it is.
the Ford site only seems to say that the transit connect comes in short and long wheelbases but I can't find what those wheelbases are.
anybody else find it? |

| oops, found it. 104 and 121 so not very big. built on focus and cmax chassis. |

Not the Transit, it is def smaller in back than desired.
The full Transit in Europe better, and you always see it in WS vids from the UK , but the ultimate ride for me and fam would be the:

Alas, Can't get it here.
More i looked at the Nissan NV200, it really doesn't have more length than the Element. (Not dissin) Wish VW would get back in the game....
I just need some jumper seats for the little monsters....

prior to my first Chrysler Town & Country I measured all that I considered, in person , on the show room floors or sales lots. The Element was among those. Consiering the interior space it is weak in comparison to many, IT MAY VERY WELL BE THE BEST windsurfing SUV , BUT THATS A FAR CRY FROM THE BEST vehicle for windsurfing.
My passenger seats fold flat into the floor, and lay under , they don't intrude in the cargo area, my first had the seats removed, as they folded but then took up space.
I think your wants and needs are different from mine, and you Honda therfore works just fine, for you. 6 boards and 18 sails coast to coast works for me.
There are a few elements (intended) on these pages that spout all manner of opinion based on non or loose facts. If my posts include speculation or theory, I hope I say say so.

funny the one I found says 114.6
The cargo area is the measure that counts, length height width,
the Windsport editor had one and the board hung from the ceiling into the passenger seating area

I priced out a Europe Ford Tourneo van, long wheel base with a diesel, six speed auto, cargo with seating behind the driver seat and it prices out to $40,500 plus $8100 tax.
Hmm 40 plus mpg tho.....
Makes my $4600 GMC Safari look real good.......
Gas is more than twice as expensive in the UK though. $8.14 per gallon. That would make my 20 mpg really expensive.

its odd that a small diesel van is not available, but not many want to spend 3 large for a diesel.
Chevy will have one in the Cruze sedan or whatever it is

I found something that really caught my eye with this link~

Click on the Trucks tab, then click on the 2015 transit tab, I might have to hold out for the '15s to come out, they seem to be way more WS friendly size-wise. 3 different roof heights, and 3 different lengths. It looks kinda like a sprinter, and they have a re-engineered V6, no specs on mileage that I could find though.
But they look sweet!
First ones come out in the summer of '14. |
