Seemingly out of nowhere, it appears that the "beta" version of iWindsurf simply vanished without a word.

For those that might not be aware of what the beta version was, it was a selection that you could make on the myIW location after pressing the tab above. You could choose either of the windsurf or kiting links, and then when you selected a specific location for review, it would show the wind readings for the iWindsurf sites, to include the major bouys, but it would also include a myriad of other sites around the local area. As many of us know, wind doesn't always happen at just the sites where iWindsurf has sensors.

Maybe I'm missing something that iWindsurf announced earlier, but if we have in fact lost this avenue and all the information that went with it, it's a huge loss.

Anyone know what's going on?

We have released the 2013 version of iWindsurf: Global.iWindsurf.com, which has even more additional weather stations than the 2007 Beta version had, and many more weather tools.

www.iWindsurf.com, the original, is not going anywhere. The Classic iWindsurf is 100% supported.

Here's the Global.iWindsurf.com map focused on Santa Barbara:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#34.369,-119.691,12,obs

And here's an example of the new weather station detail pages: S.B. East Buoy:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/spot/709

For more info, here's the Forum announcement re Global.iWindsurf:
http://www.iwindsurf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27166

Sorry for not making an announcement about taking down the links to the 2007 Beta, Chandler, but honestly very, very few people were using the old 2007 Beta version of iWindsurf. And it never got out of "Beta" status because it did have problems.

Most of the things that people liked about the 2007 version are available in the 2013 version of iWindsurf: Global.iWindsurf.com. We hope that you find a few pages to bookmark on Global.iWindsurf that help you get what you liked about the 2007 Beta iWindsurf.

Is the wind sensor map in profiles not live updating like the iwindsurf dynamic map?

Kevin, yes we will eventually update the Forums too, just not yet. We will be implementing more UI improvements on global.iwindsurf.com over the coming months. Things like automatic updating of the wind maps are possible. A lot of great stuff is in the works, actually.

geohaye, thanks for your comments concerning iWindsurf's Global site. It offers similar attributes as beta, but it doesn't appear to be as complete or as friendly. What I liked about beta is the fact that it offered the same screen format/size as the greater LA region in the standard iWindsurf site, but it would also show all wind readings from all the non-iWindsurf sites. How can I get the same thing with global? As it stands right now, I have to go through a multi-stepped convoluted process to get the same information.

Give Global a chance, guys. Change is always disorienting, but when you get used to Global, it is actually quite easy to use. And there are many more stations & features on Global.

Chandler, I would bookmark this page like this one for a greater LA-area overview:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#33.433,-118.669,9,obs

For Santa Barbara, you could bookmark this page:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#34.369,-119.691,12,obs

For Leo to Santa Monica:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#33.904,-118.675,11,obs

For Cabrillo-Long Beach-Seal Beach:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#33.638,-118.18,12,obs

And Michael,

Here's a good NY, NY and Long Island overview:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#40.485,-73.138,9,obs

Here's a good bookmark for western Long Island:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#40.635,-73.515,10,obs

And, Eastern Long Island:
http://global.iwindsurf.com/en-us/Search/ViewResults.aspx#40.856,-72.625,10,obs

Geohaye, I'm afraid you made my point. Instead of a single screen view that I used to get with beta, I now have to bookmark a number a screens and review each one separately. I guess I'm totally missing the new improved part of the change. I don't want to keep belaboring this, but I think you know where I'm coming from. It's a lot more complicated and far less efficient in operation.
