We are looking at a El Nino/La Nina Neutral year which means perfect conditions at La Ventana and Los Barriles this winter. Once again we will have free sensor data and I will be doing a daily FREE onsite forecast, onsite reports and photo blog free for everyone!

So to plan an escape to warm water, strong wind and big swell see the Baja Guide:

If you have never been to La Ventana check out these videos:

Steve....
About 15 windsurfers from the Cal Sailing Club annually drive down to LaVentana sometime in mid Dec, most staying about 2.5 weeks, with some staying down for the entire winter.
You can always hook up with them, leave a 3x5 card with a message on their bulletin board.

What is the internet access like in Los Barilles or La Ventana? I have to be accessible to clients and have been wanting to come down for some time.

Cell service?

Thanks!
RIP

Hi Mulekick84,

I don't have any direct info. about Los Barriles internet but it is sure to be better than La Ventana.

La Ventana internet varies with your location.

Some houses, coffee shops have 5 meg. DSL which works great and is reliable.

Other houses are sharing DSL lines via WIFI and antennas.

Some ore isolated houses have Hughes satellite internet.

The campground has several hundred campers sharing just a few DSL lines via WiFi and is usable but very slow at peak times. Despite this people are able to use Skype most of the time.

For short term visitors at a place without reliable DSL you can just go to a coffee shop and get access while you are a customer.

For cell service I use AT&T Viva Mexico Plan which works through TelCell towers and is cheap and extremely reliable even at my remote location. For local calls you can buy a $20 cheap phone in La Paz at TelCel and buy cards at the La Ventana markets. No plan or credit card required.

Hope this helps.
