I am seriously considering it... not easy to demo these though. Anyone use one in the gorge? I like the wingers on the 2013, looks good for chop. Im wafting between the 86 and 96. There are also good deals on the 2011, so input on those or the changes would be useful

Wingers on the 2013 3S? What wingers? Here's a preview of the custom board Mark Nelson is making for me from my design: This here's a WINGER!
I plan on making a mini-documentary about creating an all-new board style and posting it on my website once I get the board & test it. An expensive gamble, but I have confidence in my design, and Mark is doing an amazing job of fleshing out my dream. Keep your fingers crossed!

Sorry, but 1/4" wingers aren't going to have any noticeable effect. That being said, Tabou makes great boards, and you'll probably love this one, I recently rented it in Hawaii. My Tabou Rocket 115 is one of the best boards I've ever owned.

The Tabou's 3S are best sellers in Europe and no wonder. I have the 3-Style 106 LTD 2012 (has the wingers), that I use in moderate to light winds (say from 5.3 to 6.6) and just love it.
These boards are great. They plane extremely early, are easy, comfortable and plenty manoeuvrable.
Unless you are heavy (say 190+), the 86 is the one to go with, it would be your everyday board in the Gorge. If you want to treat yourself, get a 76 and 96, it would cover all the wind range in the Gorge (or say 95%).
If possible, get a LTD edition, you'll get a lighter and stiffer construction. The board will pop up a bit earlier onto a plane and will feel even more manoeuvrable.
I've said it before, too bad the Tabou's don't have a better visibility in North America. Fabien Vollenweider (the shaper) is arguably one of the best shaper in the world. To say how good he is, Bic are still producing boards Vollenweider shaped years ago (Core, Nova).
For radical wave riders, the Tabou Da Curve line is outstanding with it's multi-fin system. You can ride the board Quad, Tri Fin or Single fin, it's all good. For real world waves, the Pocket line is also great.
But for The Gorge, unless you are a very radical swell rider, the 3S is the way to go.
Not too far from the 3S, you have the Fanatic FreeWave. Compared to the Tabou 3-S, they are a bit more wave-oriented. If you live in The Gorge, ask White Salmon Mike what he thinks about them.
The advantage of the Fanatics is that you can demo it from Gorge Surf Shop.

Agree. My Tabou Rocket 125 is my all time favorite light wind board. I also have the Rocket 105 2010 that I use when going upwind is an issue (it is the case in the Montreal area, where current is same direction as the wind).
But for The Gorge, the 3S is a winner.

My wife has a 2011 3S 86 as her light wind board - it's the LTD construction..very light weight! Although I have a more wave-oriented board about the same size that I sail 4.7/5.2 (5.8 if I'm desperate), I have ridden it about a dozen times and am always impressed with how smooth it rides and what a sweet jiber it is. Super easy and fun to sail.
Its a really impressive board and you probably can't go wrong with it. If it has a shortcoming, I've found that it's not quite as snappy on sharp turns in the swell as I like, but this may be the fin that's on it or maybe I just haven't spent enough time on it to dial it in.
I have a buddy who has a bigger one - the 103 or 106..I forget - and I've thought about getting one for those really light days and another 1/2 dozen friends who are on the smaller Pockets and rave about them.
I'm with Guy above - Tabou's and Fanatics are some of the best production boards out there these days.

nada, you should consider a career as a board tester, your evaluation of the board is right on, very similar to the reviews I read in French and British magazines.
Cheers!

I no swell rider. I mosty like bombing along as fast as possible in the wave/choppy stuff, but I like a quick turning board to avoid the worst of it, and to try to aim for the ramps for jumps and half loops(ouch). With occasional coast trips where I need a board that gets out easy and wont leave me dangiling above the sea creatures too long. Ive been using older narrower wave and fsw boards to handle the chop, but im getting tired of battling them to get on a plane and want something easier.

mchaco1 I sent you a pm about demoing my 86 3S LTD. Looking at your last post I think this is the perfect board for you. I practically lived on my 86 3S this summer as it was my go to 4.7 board. Being a bigger guy I also sailed it in up and down 4.2 days. I also took it into some serious wind with a 23cm fin and it did great.
