I know this is off topic, but as I am from the East Coast, I have a question for all you Bay area guys. I was looking to see what the forecast for wind might be for the America's Cup races this afternoon on iwindsurf.

What location(s) listed on the iwindsurf forecast is/are closest to the AC sailing venue? (I'm anxious to see if the wind will be down a bit so NZ will have more of a speed advantage as Oracle seems to be better when this wind is up near max. limit).

thanks.

Hi Whitevan01. Look at 3 sensors; Anita Rock (which is 100 yards off shore from Crissy Field), Golden Gate SS and Golden Gate Tower. They will give 3 different readings but I think will give you the best idea of what wind is about to hit the race course.

Look at the iwindsurf forecast for San Francisco, Crissy Field (Central Bay).

HiWhitevan01,

We at weatherflow set up all the new and/or upgraded sensors for the America's Cup people at locations we jointly selected. We also provide extremely high res. model output for the race.

Locations of the Weatherflow AC sensors and some sketchy notes about their use in this AC races:

Alcatraz (lots of turbulence here but if you mentally look at the average there is some useful info. here.

Top of the South Tower 700' of Golden Gate. Useful for seeing the winds just aloft that can impact the direction of the surface wind (for SW flow) AND gives you an early warning of potential wind strength later (for major NW wind event). (you really have to zoom to max using WA to find this sensor)

West base of South Tower of Golden Gate. Dead accurate for wind in this area and east towards Blackaller buoy and a bit towards the mid span. (zoom to max using WA to find this sensor)

Aquatic Park very useful for detecting winds near shore on this part of the course. Also picks up any SW flow.

Anita Rock Useful for winds near shore on this part of the course.

Pt. Diablo Useful for detecting when a marine surge nears the Golden Gate. Otherwise of little use.

Lower Point Blunt. beyond the race course but a good early warning of building THERMAL winds, and NW/SW combo winds and actual wind in the SLOT. This sensor does not receive wind in a major NW pattern like yesterday.

Treasure Island NORTH. Also beyond the race course but a good early warning of building THERMAL and NW/SW combo winds and actual wind in the SLOT. This sensor receives disturbed wind in a major NW pattern like yesterday.

Treasure Island SOUTH helps detect winds in the wind shadow of the eastern City Front.

You can find all of these sensors by going to WindAlert.com and using your iwindsurf.com user name and password.

Here is a video of some of our work on these sensors:

thanks, Mike, that link to windalert really helped me out.
can't believe the AC is now over 2 weeks. I just want it to keep going on and on (although I would like to see NZ win).

Well that was one hell of a come-back, historical, one for the ages.
And awesome!

Wouldn't want to be a Kiwi crewman right now.

yes, congratulations to the Aussies and Brit that Ellison hired to retain the Cup for him.

Did you see Barker crying in the back of the Kiwi boat? At least that was a mostly Kiwi challenge.

As of just recently, these stations are also all now available on the new Global iWindsurf -- which includes the full "WindAlert" toolkit (better maps, more weather stations, etc) but finally on an iWindsurf website:

The USA comeback in the AC this past week was absolutely unreal. One for the ages....

Good thing the wind didn't pick up today to the strengths that we windsurfers would rig our small sails for........because those boats would have broken into a great many pieces. (They would have called off the race if the wind hit 25, which could have easily happened, and which would have been a mega disappointment on this day where so many around the world were captivated beyond belief.)
