I think it boils down to this. The good people of America are afraid of the bad people of America, and they don't trust the govt or police to protect them. I can only imagine what the good people of Boston felt like when their political leaders told them to go home and hide. Most didn't have guns, and could only shut the blinds.

Colorado has approved its first elected legislator recall vote in state history. Its target, by successful public demand, is the state Senate chief who pushed through the state's insane gun control laws. Can you spell "backlash", with "national potential"?

Bard,
Imagine if all the households in Boston were heavily armed shortly after.
An assault rifle sticking out of every window with the 5years olds armed with baby blue rifles like in West Virginia.
NRA paradise.
A door slams loudly, the most frightened housewife lets go with an Uzi, others return fire in panic.
The slaughter begins......

An armed Boston could not have prevented two mild looking tourists with backpacks from setting those bombs in a huge crowd carrying similar backpacks.

Regardless of who is legally or really guilty or innocent in the Zimmerman/Martin case, it is an excellent example of one of my concealed carry training's prime directives: Unless a situation directly threatens someone more valuable than your own life and freedom, keep it in your pants or don't even carry. We had to list and prioritize every person of high value to us, and draw a line beneath the last person or event worth REALLY messing up the rest of our lives over. That's a damned short list, and does not include stopping a real or potential burglar on the street.

Once on his back, Z was defending himself, according to the court, so he met that requirement.

However, a corollary to that directive is not venturing into a situation armed if you would not do so unarmed. That may be his biggest mistake that night.

My own lesson from this case and my training is that carrying adds a TON of risk which must be compared to its protection if really required. Anyone considering carrying must evaluate both risks carefully ... the risks of carrying vs the risks of not carrying. Recently and obviously disabled by an injury, I can no longer protect myself or my wife with anything but a gun, and we are suddenly and obviously the weakest animals in the herd. The game rules have changed, showing once again how highly dependent that decision is on personal factors.

Maybe I should mount a holster on my crutch.

I started laughing when I first read this..... I thought you wrote "crotch."

Brings new meaning to the expression "gun nuts."
