A quick email note to the Regional US Windsurfing Director and the Race Officer should suffice, for status on needed records. Race and category results are very important, because the Competitors (Entry Fees) were the 2nd Biggest Sponsor of this Event. Thanks for the input and follow up everyone. And thank you Spennie. |

Since I was only a PA announcer (and only so-so at that for various reasons) & somewhat of an advisor (though not 'officially'), I wish I could have done more. There are a few issues I had, but all of them are 'mute' now. Except for these:
I was glad to be instrumental, after Peter Bonello called me, in helping (at the last minute) to secure permission from the LA City Lifeguards and the City of LA Rec & Parks in Mid May. I usually operate months in advance of that. But we got it in less than 24hrs.
But I was sorely disappointed in what I consider HUGE Government Fees for this Event placed on the back of two Non-Profit organizations (CBYC & US Windsurfing). And outside of the fact the Lifeguards are already their anyways, we didn't cost the facilities any more COSTS than usual. This was probably the most expensive venue costs ever for a windsurfing event. But again, time & clout was needed to mitigate this!
BUT CBYC stepped up despite a negative cash flow and of course Peter Bonello of US Windsurfing was rightly committed to it, just as CBYC was committed. Much Kudos for them.
I am disappointed in No Major Sponsorship for this Event and their never has been that I can tell for the Nationals or for US Windsurfing. I don't understand it, there needs to be. And I and others may be exploring this for the benefit for everyone.
BUT What a great time I had meeting everyone in the 5 days of the Championships. That camaraderie and pushing your limits windsurfing, to me is the biggest fun to take from this kind of Event. I only wished I had been able to do a lot more. Because so much more can be done, as many of you experienced racers can attest. But with proper time and sponsorship, it should be done and it must be done right for all of you and for Windsurfing.
Again, Thanks for sharing your thoughts, stories, critiques, and information for betterment for US Windsurfing. |

All class results now up on USWA site, as well as a nice story by Peter Bonello...

(go to the links below the story).
Many, many thanks are due to Peter for his work on this race.
