My son is 8 and started windsurfing this season. He started out riding an old Mistral Flow 93 liter board (only 56cm wide) and was able to up haul and sail consistently on both tacks. I recently had him in a 3 day camp which improved his overall sailing capabilities and he's now able to tack. He was on a Fanatic Ripper 120.
I'm getting ready to purchase a board for him and looking at the Ripper 102L or 120L or an older Exocet Cruiser KJ 100L. I'm favoring the 100/102L boards but needed some reassurance. I don't want to get to aggressive and have him struggle. |

If priced the same, maybe let Jr decide.?
He'd be stoked.
(course you can offer fatherly input )
Should have enough float either way, and easier for him to handle on beach...my 8 is supping a 21'wide 90l and i'm like "What?' _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=zw0MgkO7VXw |

You can also ask the camp people.
I guess your boy is about 40 kg. In terms of flotation, even 100 l is overkill. Equivalent to 250l for me! Provided he doesn't need the 120l width for stability, he will be happier with the smaller one.
The only reason my kids didn't end-up using a 90l FSW is because the deck was too abrasive and made their knee bleed. The EVA softdecks are a must. |

Decided on the smaller board, thanks for the input.
He's really likes sailing which is great, but now I have to figure out how to pay for it all |
