It has not been a good month at 3rd Ave. It was finally firing today though, solid wind and late afternoon ebb. The SW flow aloft, Peninsula comber fog, friggen Eddies, and their big stupid uncle Monsoonal Moisture, all left town I guess, good riddance!

After a few days off following the Coyote bonanza, back at the stick in a messy day. Took out my Firelight 6.0 + 85 RRD but it was not really working so I switched to the Carbon Art Slalom. Kind of strange with a wave sail on a slalom board (talk about "unstable"!) but it was making me go when almost anybody else was kind of slogging ... Sad Time to take the slalom gear out again, I forgot how fun it is at the Stick.

Day after (25) back with the proper set up: Carbon Art and 6.6 GPS, much better behaved but man ... going from the lightest production sail on the market (Firelight) to the 5.5 Kg 3-cam GPS is kind of shock: forgot how physical a cambered sail is. Fun though Very Happy

7/27 ... getting worse ... I should have gone out try to do little tricks in no wind instead back with 6.6 GPS for 30' good minutes ... but that's it. Summer is here! Maybe Coyote was better ... Sad

7/28 ... better, would have been great if I took out the Is-111 instead insisting to use the CA 58. Many slalom guys showed up! fun ... and good wind, almost open up to Sierra point, between 4 and 5.

Seems someone should represent the Central Bay. It has been rocking the last couple of days. TI has been on fire and Blunt Point was literally smoking yesterday afternoon. Looking upwind into the sun out by the buoys the 30+ gusts were ripping off the tops off the waves and creating this amazing glowing layer of mist. 4.7 was way too big for me out there but perfect inside where the ebb smoothed out the surface to near perfection.

It can't compare to Berkeley, of course, but it has been pretty good.

Maybe not to Berkeley, but Pt. Isabel/Marina Bay was pretty good today as well, what with the fog rolling in, the glow on the water, and all the rest of that poetic crap that some folks are much better at....

Isabel
Her Light
Her Fog
Dogs run
Dogs swim
We run

Sometimes Swim.

How's That?

We run? We fly We skip...
All in all, paints a nice picture.

And for those less poetically inclined, it was 5.2 with an even swell and a southerly direction. As usual, quite understated by the meter.

Been trying to come up with a Pt Isabel Poem for today.

A Seal
Watched me sail past, moving her head as I passed
her.

Razor blade horizon
Everything else soft focus

Once out of the wetsuit, beer in hand
(we all know how nice that is)
Time to reflect on our adventures
Our crashes, Brian and I both had one

Today TI was "light". On a 5.9 at 4- 6pm. Wind came up from 4 and out further at Pt Blunt it was probably 26mph. Half dozen folks rigged on 4.7 to 7.4. ROCK steady; zero gusts. Not a white knuckle day but well worth the trip. Almost made the drive to Rio; it looked weak at 2:30 but TI came through!

Yeah TI was good. We got out a little late, probably hit water about 545. Ebb was kicking by then, plenty o wind for me on 5.0, a 4.7 would have been better at times, but I clued in and eventually really tightened outhaul on 5.0 so was happy. Choppy at times, some swell, and the usual smoother waters by the island. Kind of gray out there, and when sunshine poked out was kind of blinding in contrast. Lots of fun, sailed till near sunset.

San Luis Res the last two days
Sunday got there at 2 stayed on 4.7 and the wave board till 7
two others showed up late.
Weed fins a must but no solid green patches yet.
Today got there at 2 again rigged a 5.7 tried the skate 110 but not
quite enough for it at first . Went to a larger board for a bit. Then it
started to kick in went to 4.7 to finish things off on the skate.
I got two planning tacks hard to do when you weight 215 on 100 literish
boards. Then it started to build an got super gusty, so I quit about 6.
It was my own personal lake today, again.
