I"m not sure because I don't seem to have the spinout problem at the coast. I think it probably is too much back foot pressure. I'm probably riding a bit more forward and lighter at the coast when I'm trying to pinch upwind and against the sideshore current.

I suspect my biggest problem is a heavy back foot, as you suggest, and there's no way in hell I'd sail FFO (front foot only) in breaking waves. I just wish to heck I had had the sense to use much bigger boards back when I often went to the OR coast for an afternoon session. Trying to force fit little Gorge toys into northern OR coast conditions -- huge wind speed swings, powerful rip currents, highly localized winds, and no idea how to get back upwind after going DTL past the headland-induced wind patch -- spoiled most coast trips ... except, of course, when most people were sitting on the shore because of solid, consistent, filled-in 2.8-3.0 conditions where my gear worked fine.
