I am looking for some spots to sail between Newport and Lincoln city. I live in Salem don't want to drive to far like to pistol I have been basing my coast trip off the the roads end camera looking for white caps then driving there. Wed 7/3 was super epic conditions actually saw one windsurfer! Is there any spots between these two towns to sails that is better or similar to roads end. I don't like the gorge being a Hawaiian Cali transplant river sailing is just straight boring, and or frustrating in the choppy nesss
Any suggestions for south wind also I have heard it is a NO GO

Newport south jetty can be really good. Check the PDXwindsurfer yahoo group out, they have the coast wired.

Florence will be stronger wind, blow more often than Newport or north, and is a very good spot for side shore riding. You'll just have to drive further if you are ready to sail and it's not windy up north.

Neptunes - morning usually works with fog
Stonefield
Ocean Beach - aka Bone Crushers
Muriel Ponsles Memorial Beach

There will be no one else sailing here, so bring company if you don't want to sail alone.

Sorry those are between Newport and Florence, not much between LC and Newport.

Only lunatics sail the ocean in south wind, that being said, Dana and Roger sail the north jetty at Bandon in the winter.

South winds on the Oregon coast are flaky and usually the waves are
30 feet. Jeff has sailed Barview up by Oceanside in south wind.

I was the one of persons out there sailing on July 3. I live in Salem. Where you the mechanic with the used gear. If is was you, you did good out there! I am not much of gorge person either; it is boring compared to the coast. The locations that I have sailed are Roads End, Beverly Beach (that can be good on NE winds), Agate Beach and South Beach. There are more spots along Lincoln City coast. It is just taking to time to find them. The most consistently windy beach is Agate Beach. A good guide is http://isobareng.wordpress.com/oregon-coast-windsurfing-guide/ . A compilation of information nicely put together by Isobar.
Yes, you can sail on south wind. Just note that it is typically squall wind. It can leave you swimming if is shuts down. The bays are the best place for sailing south winds in winter, Siletz and Alsea.

Thanks for the info !!
I am kinda of kook so i don't know if anyone wants to sail with me. Tried Florence on Sunday didn't know about NOT sailing the north jetty(s), had a blast until I got to far out and the rip pulled me into the front face of the north jetty. Got exploded onto the rocks with my gear. Some how walked away.

Finally made it to the South side killer spot Lott safer and funner.

Seems like I aways need more sail out there on the coast>?

One more note. Unless it is really consistent wind, a floaty board is the key for the Oregon Coast.

I totally forgot about Agate Beach in Newport, we use to sail there all the time when it wasn't windy enough at Roads End.
