In addressing the part about the boomhead clamping onto the mast, this is what I always do to keep that connection both snug enough to prevent slippage w/o being too hard on the mast.
I use booms that are designed to go onto a SDM or a RDM by choice, and I only use RDMs, and this is why.
I remove the factory shim w/in the clamp head, and then use one of those thick rubber converter shims that wrap almost all the way around the mast, then I put on the boom w/o the factory shim. You get a much better connection between the boom and mast w/o any pressure points or sloppyiness. Sometimes the older way of doing things are the best, your mast will love you for it.
The only hitch, it requires a boom head with a removable convertable shim, many are still made that way. |

Did you try using the top part of the mast upside down inside the broken bottom piece to make enough of a sail? |

Glad you found a replacement so quickly. If there is a next time, buy the Ezzy RDM. Gear has improved so much now that fears about RDM masts in big cammed sails are no longer valid. Anyone less than PWA standard would be hard pressed to notice the difference in performance between a large race sail designed for an RDM and a large race sail designed for an SDM. For reference I weigh 195 lb and use a 490 RDM mast in a 4 cam 8.8 race sail. |
