Here's a couple pics of what we woke up to this morning at Sherman Island.

The big logs originally blocked the entire road. A couple of campers who were up at dawn moved them. Thanks!

Thanks Wendy,
I was wondering about the sailboat, it looked to be in good shape up on the beach. Here are a few pictures I took just before you enter the park.

@ 2bluehawaiins... Thanks for the pics. Fun swell! Here's another shot I took later in the morning of the boat. Keel was buried in the sand, but otherwise seemed to be in okay shape. My heart goes out to the owners.

Great photos wendywindle! Below are animated imagery of the Sherman Island wind graph and the Cut-Off Low at 18,000 ft. that souped up this marine surge.

Okay I know our sport is greatly diminishing in numbers (okay, dying), but for one morning Rio on Sunday reversed all of that. We were at The Sign and it was full full with tons of small new-enough gear, many different ages represented, women having at it on teeny tiny gear, and smiles a mile wide, whoops etc. One could see up and down the river many small sails, folks at Powerlinews and upper Powerlines all the way up to the park, many sails and NO KITES. I'm sure there were kiters out, we've got a few who will go out in 30 plus winds at Washoe but it thins out the kites in a big hurry. Anyway, I couldn't see any kites from the Sign.
Yes it did remind one of the old days if for only one epic day.

It's funny how you can look at the swells and think "OMG!!! I gotta get a picture of this!" but when you see the photo it's nothing like what you were looking at. I couldn't be there (DANG!), but I'd bet the pictures of the swell posted here don't come even close to doing it justice.

If you're reading this and haven't sailed Rio Vista/Sherman Island before, add about two feet to what you're thinking right now. It's frigging awesome!

Thanks for the photos, Wendy!

Thought I'd mention TI was absolutely insane on Saturday too. Normally with one of these surge things I would figure Sherman to be 5-10 mph but not this time. Base wind was mid 30s gusts into the 40s. No flooded roads but plenty of windsurfers washing up on the rocks!

Here is a picture of the overnight carnage at Powerlines on Sunday morning... brought on by the 40 mph overnight winds.

One porty potty down... and the other was providing a lot of adrenaline, as the risk of 'going over the handlebars' in it was quite real.
