Gang,

Marine surges are only suppose to last 2 possibly 2.5 days. This one is on its 4th day. Part of the answer is in the blog link below. But today marine surge winds at Sherman Island are being sustained in part by an eddy well west of the Golden Gate. Take a look satellite video from this morning and note the counter-clockwise spinning winds that are sending southerly flow to Sherman Island.

Note the NW winds on the west side of the eddy. Those are the winds that will try to reach the Peninsula late this afternoon as the eddy dies.

Check out the blog for the details.

Hi ctuna,

I agree with Benjamin... it looks like another upper level high pressure builds over the state at 18K feet Friday and Saturday cranking the temps up. So there is a decent chance the Central Valley thermal low waltzes over the coast again Saturday. And the Cut-Off Low that turbocharged this marine surge is still meandering near Southern California. So if things play out right we could see a deja vu marine surge Sunday.

Keep in mind I am forecasting 5 days out which is more than a little iffy. Anyone want to take odds?

I just want to see it go away, we got pretty spoiled with what many of us are calling the best May in about 10 years, in my area anyway (A.L.).

Hey 2bluehawaiiins

The isobar map below is one of the things I am looking at for predawn Sunday. Note how the Central Valley thermal low in green has bulged out into the pacific north of the Golden Gate. You know what this means.

The air will be unstable due to a Cut-Off Low to the south so the marine layer will not be as compacted as it is today in the video image you see at the bottom. So the winds may be somewhat up and down.
