Looking for a gaastra recent vintage gold 400 100% carbon bottom. Thankfully I broke it on the last run (of course) of an amazing day. I'm in SF and could meet anywhere in the south bay/santa Cruz area.

2 masts broke at our beach today. Both bottoms. I've broken at least 30 masts over the years, and every single one of them has been a bottom. However, if anyone has an Neil Pryde SDM x9 bottom, I'd appreciate it. Neil Pryde Maui loves me.....

Since going skinny in 2002, I've only broken two masts - both times 370 tops. Each time, was rider error mis-timing the lip. Before that I broke at least two a year. Everyone should go with masts that allow you to mix and match bottoms and tops. That way - unless you sail Jalama regularly, a broken mast is only half the cost of a full replacement.

Mike, nice photo! It was probably good that you broke it in 2 places, like I did today. That allowed both of us to save our sails without damage. I quickly pulled the pieces of the mast out so the next wave wouldn't shred it. I might try Davenport later this week. Will bring older mast for sure.

Yeah, It looks like the South Swell did a little late spring mast pruning!
I totally agree with Gerritt. It is freaking annoying that most companies don't sell their masts in mix match parts. These masts are expensive. Its also bloody wasteful - carbon mast print - carbon wind print - arghhhhh I don't want to buy an entire new mast again!
Which companies sell mix matched? Maybe I'll build my next quiver around that.
