Classic!

What goes around comes around...... So I'm calling for a return of the tinkler tail! This was an 80s invention that allowed the back half of the board to flex. This meant that the board could have a flat base rocker that would give way to a much more curved rocker when engaged during a turn. Mistral had a production version called the challlenge flex that had swapable tail pieces. I had a challenge flex for a summer and loved it. Witchcraft was playing around with the idea recently.

That flex tail will be awesome with my fence fin, z-booms and cut-away multi-sail! _________________ /w\ |

a pointer fin design that can extend and rake back for those weedy days
a self-deploying floating anchor when accidental rig detachment occurs
... and the winner is ...
a mechanism so the back strap pops out of the board only when a foot is inserted into the front strap |

It is nonsense, and if you want me to re-engineer your Kite
I can do that too, just send money. I'm good with microprocessors.
I haven't lost a drag race to a Kite boarder since they became
popular, so you definitely need a redesign to be competitive
with the old tech windsurfers. $250,000 sounds about right for
that too.

I used to make Windsurfers with a well known shaper. Bottom line: everything is a trade off. I can't imagine it's any different with sail design.
I jumped ship from Windsurfing 10 years ago to go Kiting after about 18 years of very focused Windsurfing at a fairly high level. Just recently I borrowed some gear and tried Windsurfing again. I could not believe how hard it was for how little performance you get from it, and this was with modern gear.. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want Windsurfing to die. I had a blast with it when I did it and I sail with guys and gals that still have a lot of fun doing it, but architecturally, it seems seriously limited in its present form. |

It's closer than I thought, get rid of those wings (trampolines) and sailors, replace them with windsurfers on more of a board type thing with footstraps, and there you go!
BAM!!! |

I'll bet you haven't raced an animal like Glen Mulvey. He's 30% faster than any other kiter I've raced. |

Drag-raced a kiteboard? People do that? Never even crossed my mind that that would be something that someone would set their mind to..
Oh well, you got me there... |

Mine, either, 'cause 99% of them seem to use sweatshirts for fins and senile gerbils for power sources. But when I was wound up on a broad reach on a wave board and fin and heard something approaching me from behind, looked to be sure I wasn't going to cut somebody off, and saw Glen creeping up on me, I couldn't just let him go by unchallenged. I closed the gap, hiked out and back, fed more boom through my hands, bore off a bit to my optimal angle ... all for naught, as he still crept by. I doubt an electronic batten or downhaul would have helped. |
