Hundreds of his posts squash that hope. |

I resent that!
Some are two- and even three-liners. And on occasion, I might even do a few paraghraphs -- when your post warrants that level of effort.
So far, ummm.............. not really.
And Mikey's posts? They warrant hip boots.
But, as when Bill O'Reilly says, "Thanks for watching," so I say to you, "Thanks for reading."

This seems somehow appropriate:

Of course for Iso, even better:
How can I miss you when you won't go away?

mac, I took your advice and googled Strange Fruit. Thanks for the tip.
Having been a life long lover of music and especially the blues, i was rather stunned at the power this poem set to music by none other than Billie Holliday has . Although she did not write it I admire her courage for singing it. This woman had guts. Written by a Jewish teacher Abel Meeropol and recorded by Lady Day in 1939:
The origional protest song:
Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the roots
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of Magnolias sweet and fresh
The sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is fruit for crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
Thanks mac
Thank you Billie Holiday, may you rest in peace. |

Slinky--I'm pretty sure I snuck that one by all of the righties, especially Beagle-bigot whose nasty posting required something calling him out.
Good research; I had thought it was based on a poem by Langston Hughes, one of the leading lights in the Harlem Renaissance. Some attribute it to Billy Holliday, but this source says you have it right: http://www.ladyday.net/stuf/vfsept98.html |

Hey, at least we don't drool.

Glad to see that your reading has finally risen to your intellectual capacity.

Gosh, thanks, Mr. B. You're usually not so generous with the compliments.
