Speaking of inconvenient truths, it's fascinating to observe the moderating language from some on this topic. Just a few years ago, following the latest IPCC assessment, the G8 and the world's major science academies breathlessly told us......
"climate change is happening even faster than previously estimated. The need for urgent action to address climate change is now indisputable."
Others remained unconvinced. More than three years ago a very wise man wrote on this forum.....

This, and similar statements, were greeted with a torrent of scorn........."oil company flack", "apologist for the carbon industry" and other erudite accusations flowed from the pen of those who knew so much better. Yet now, we discover that those same accusers have been skeptical of the data all along!! Who knew!! And they also reveal that the real problem is that Republicans, coal and oil companies have blocked funding for proper research.......with more funding the scientists would have got it right. Funny old world isn't it? |

Mac's new job numbers are absolutely meaningless unless you add the job losses, those giving up on job searches and those working part time. It's the net figure that counts, not the "feel good" spin that the government and media push on the American public. 7.7% unemployment is a laughing matter.
Take a look at the real figures..........from the US Department of Labor. Percentage of the adult population working month to month.

So is there anyone out there that still wants to insist that the employment picture in the United States is getting significantly better?
Anyone that wants to claim that “unemployment is going down” should at least wait until the unemployment-population ratio gets back up to 59 percent. Otherwise they just look foolish. |

You are right about Macs numbers being meaningless. America is becoming a 3rd world nation thanks to Obama and guys like Mac. We might have more money to throw at global climate issues, if we had a more vibrant economy. There are plenty of $10-12 an hour jobs for people, but the real job boom has collapsed.
I was listening to Allentown by Billy Joel today, and couldn't help but feel sad about big government and big corporate greed and incompetence. Too big to fail was a failure. Banks still haven't forclosed on homeowners who have been delinquent for years. Why? I know a bunch of guys who haven't paid their mortgages in over 3 years. Why? Boggs can you answer that? Seems like Bush2 to me.
And today in Cyprus. We're just taking 10% of your savings......sorry.

| techno900, I'm just curious. Maybe you can explain what "the employment-population ratio" really is for us regular folks and why it means so much. While I realize that you are just quoting something you picked up from a non-mainstream media source, it would be good to know where the statistical data came from, and what's really behind the yearly number. |

| Chandler, this is straight from the Bureau of Labor Statistics..there is a shortage of high paying jobs in America. I'm paying guys half of what I paid them 10 years ago, and still making less money. |
