Best call is the drive out to Bodega.
Maybe Tomales, which blows later, if it's an ebb or a slack.
S Bay MAY, or may not blow later PM.
Berkelely should TRY to blow early, but die by 4.
Larkspur/Rod might blow by mid afternoon, but shaky up and down, unless things go solid NW wise.
Alameda might blow even if Berkelely is calm.
Typical early spring or NW coastal wind. |

Agree with Kevin. It's 2:40 now and the buoy is down to 15 knots, but if the pressure tendency starts to go negative (e.g. -0.04 or better), there is a good chance of sailable wind by late afternoon. I call this the "workingman's sesh" later in the summer. It happened yesterday enough for kiting, but to sail would need a 6.5 or bigger and a floaty board. There is water starting now until dark. Look at yesterday's pattern for an example. Keep an eye on the marine lab sensor as well; you have to go to the BOON website. |

I see an early start this year, A.L. was good today, 5.2 mid afternoon with waist to shoulder high waves, and the seals were behaving.
This week should be good from Wed. to maybe Sat., with a bigger swell, and good wind, but don't tell anyone. |

As usual, I was wrong.
The coast didn't seem to do anything.
I sailed Berkelely on a 7.0 and 72cm old course slalom, planing half the time in breeze of 5-18 or so, came in at 4:30. Went out around 2:30.
Hopefully manana... |

Hi nw30
You wrote: "the seals were behaving."
What are they like at Arroyo Laguna when they are misbehaving?
Sounds and looks like a fun place to sail. Thought I should know about the seals prior to attempting the place.

Elephant seals, currently on the beach there are about 100, mostly females and their pups, they always behave, you can walk right by them. It's the big one ton plus males that you have to keep your eye on, they fight each other and don't care who, or what, gets in their way.
Right now the mature bulls have their harems established so the fighting has calmed down, only the occasional bachelor getting too close to a harem will cause a ruckus. They will all start leaving in another month.
But once you get out in the water past them, you do have this feeling that you have entered a food chain. |

nw30, Thanks for the information.
Sounds like: walk gently by the moms and pups. Keep your periphreal vision peeled for the big bulls. When on the water, try not to look like a pup. |

Well, you know, I spout off tons on every subject, backed by little more than hot air.....
Seems Berk was fine at noon, Bernard smoking along then, and slowly rose to a peak around 3 of gust of 28, then a shutdown with holey bursts of wind, which the sensor doesn't show, since at Berkeley, once the sensor starts to turn, it almost selfgenerated and self sustaining, unable to read a dropping trend.
Normal WSW direction, lots of sailors out in the water in very changing conditions and 48 temps. Anything between a 4.7 and a 10 seemed to work. |
