3 of us were out at the channel at Bodega making fast runs in pretty flat water with the low tide. Because of a new rock breakwater, you now have to launch at the boat ramp. Cold fun on Sunday. Avery went 39 mph.

| Man what an end to January. 4 day blow, waves from solid logo down to waist high and wind from 5.0 to 4.2 (for me). Waves dropping and wind increasing as the days progressed. If you missed that window from Saturday to Tuesday, then you need to unlock your mindset of the "windsurfing season." |

So-so on 6.4. OK for my purposes: trying to learn to sail a board a step smaller than my previous one, and trying a shorter fin than the 44 cm monster that came with the board. That fin might be needed for 8.5-9.0, but my largest sail is 7.3. The new 36 cm fin feels more appropriate.
A couple of kiteboarders were out, no other windsurfers. |

Shoulda bought a kite board! Trust me - I used to be the one getting my fin stuck in the mud shloggin around at low tide, light wind Bodega - easy to learn and way more fun if you want to to actually want to get planing.
Love,
One of the kiteboarders. |

I have a very old Mike's Lab course slalom (260 x 75 x probably 130L) and an Isonic 111 (both for sale!). The ML can use a 50cm fin and with the 8.0 abd my 155 pounds it feels like it is going with no wind, the Is-111 can use a 44 and lags a bit behind although probably in more capable hands and pumping would do almost as well.
Sail size seems to be limiting factor: 8.0 or 8.5 are actually quite manageable, go for one! new ones are actually about the size of "old" 7.0-7.5, with shortened booms and compact aspect ration. Mine, a hot sails maui GPS, rigs on a 460 and has a boom of "only" 210 cm)
(And forget the kites. They are ok in marginal condition if you use a 12-15 meter kite AND the wind does not drop completely ... than they have a little problem: they do not float! A floaty windsurfer is an incomparably better light wind toy!) |
