Well, they got the Mav's contest off, so there were some 18' waves, but mostly slim pickings after the first two heats, and some lulls as long as 30 MINUTES, no doubt due to the E winds and the angle of the storm headed 90 degrees away from HMB.
Some guys at PleasurePt said the sets were easily 40 minutes apart, something very unusual for any overhead swell.
At least they actually held the Mavs contest after two years.

I'm perplexed as to why that storm didn't produce larger surf. It wasn't even head high down here, although Ventura was large. The last time we saw a system that large and low, there was 20 foot surf down here.

Could be it was headed NE towards Canada, and the strong E winds in the Pacific during it's time span knocked down lots of the power.

This was definitely an interesting wave pattern. I SUPped both Saturday & Sunday between New Brighton and Capitola. The Monterey Bay was calm as a mill pond until a set arrived. Then consistent shoulder-high waves for like four to twelve waves depending on the set. A good 22 second period. Then back to calm as if nothing had happened.
I was thinking maybe it was because the storm was around 3000 miles away when the first waves were generated. But that cannot be it. We have had storms near Tahiti give continuous waves that were much larger. So the distance was not it.

I went out to Mavs on Saturday to watch. The pros were out practicing with
some sets that looked about 20 feet. Lots of boats and nobody closed the beach or bluff (like Sunday). The lulls between sets were about 30-40 min, Got kinda bored watching them just sit there in flat water, acting like shark bait. I streamed it for awhile on Sunday morning on surfline and the lulls were long long long then too. Saw some good rides on the 15-20fters but nothing epic.

I'm no expert, but what I understand and have observed is that the bigger the energy and the further away produces longer period swell. And with longer period swell (20+ sec) you get more waves per set, but longer lulls between sets. Five years ago I was down in PSC for a 9' at 20 sec swell. The waves were huge, sets were 8-12 waves each, but it was dead flat in the 30 min between sets.

The Fetch was pointed at us for a very short time period.....SAD.
Oh Well. Surfline was predicting 8-10 feet. Only 2-4 showed up.
A 936 storm has the potential to deliver some insane waves. A lot of things have to come together to Fetch it our way.
CHEERS
P.S. This Am CDIP still showing 8 feet just direction is off for Socal.
I bet J is working just Fine.
