Everyone supports gun control.
Everyone.
The debate is about which guns. Many of those who support assault rifles oppose big clips. Most oppose full auto.
Nearly every sane person does not support machine gun nests, bazookas, and anti aircraft batteries in private hands.
I once tried to buy a decommissioned tank when I was a hippie.
They refused accept my bid,
Those who think they need AR15s in case they need to fight a corrupt US government should melt them down and use the parts to begin construction of missle batteries.
Otherwise they will be bravely waving their Uzi at the sky just before the whole area is vaporized.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Ye gods, I never thought of that K.C.

Is that the future we face with out of control weapons proliferation; having to go shopping down town in a tank? (Presumably it will have serving hatch, to save the need of stepping out and being mown down in a hail of bullets.) So what happens when the baddies up the ante, and go one better with anti tank weapons?

To think, the main worry to my simple mind is that some yob may chuck a rock off a cliff top I'm kayaking beneath, to see what happens. (Why else would I have that big bed spring stuck on top of my crash hat? Wink )

Good idea. A kid dropped a rock on my car from any overpass on the hiway.
He seemed quite surprised when I showed up running toward him on the overpass while he was aiming his next rock.
Little dick was fast on his feet .

Just think what you could have done if you had a well-armed Mikey at your side. He coulda got the kid with both barrels and his eyes closed.

Just ask him, he'll tell you.

A large group of emotionally troubled people are commenting in the media about looking forward to killing someone with their guns of there is any attempt to slow the madness.
Even my NRA friends are starting to take a new look at the issue.
They just were in denial about their fellow NRA supporters.
Question. How many NRA guys does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer MORE GUNS!!!!!!

Isobars, one of the most important things they teach in a hunter safety course is that you need to be humble and respectful around non hunters/shooters. You might want to refer to the "Rifleman" as it pertains to your demeanor regarding guns.

And furthermore, if some guy opens up with a 50 round magazine, he'd get all 50 rounds off before you pulled your pea shooter out of your pants.

You completely misunderstood my comment, "I can just see the next clown who steps up in front of a theater, or in a Denny's, or in a mall and pulls out an AR-15 with a 50-round mag hanging from it a few months from now; he's gonna go down in a hail of lead before he can get off three shots".

It didn't imply that I or any other individual was just going to open up as fast as we could at the first sign of a problem. It compared the public paradigm shift following 9/11/01, after which anyone acting up on a commercial airplane was met with a swarm of observers subduing him, to the broader public paradigm shift regarding self preservation when clearly attacked. Plain and simple, gun sales, concealed carry permits*, and extensive legal and practical training are going through the roof. The results will include some additional accidents and crimes, of course, but should tilt far more towards reduced successful crime as people shed their obvious sheeple mentality. Kitty Genovese and many other people will survive attacks in 2013 that they did not months and years ago simply because more people are carrying, trained, and ready to stop being passive victims.

* We don't need no steenkin' concealed carry permits just to carry a weapon in WA. If I wanted to carry one, I can legally just strap this thing

on my belt and walk down the street. As long as it's not concealed, no permit (or registration) is necessary in Washington state.

My "demeanor regarding guns"? You're paying way to much attention to what the 10-year-olds are claiming I've said and not enough to what I've actually said. That "hail of lead" referred to dozens of of good citizens shooting the next poor schmuck who starting firing in a crowded theater or Denny's. The cops teaching the courses and writing the self-defense books say they have had almost no problems with normal citizens legally authorized to carry legal weapons, that the VAST majority of mayhem involves criminals illegally carrying illegal weapons with illegal intent. Part of their formal police training is in how to distinguish the bad guys brandishing a weapon from the good guys brandishing a weapon; the latter scarcely bother them, relatively speaking.

Extensive training is following the lead of the incredible sales surge. Even at $550 (plus at least 500 rounds of ammunition) for my wife and myself, the two-day legal, moral, and live fire practical training courses we signed up for are booked many months -- and they're taught several days a week -- in advance. By the time the free introductory courses being booked buy the dozen (at 75 students per) are over, those expensive in-depth courses will be booked years in advance in our little city. Many of the best books on those issues are also on back order, and popular ammo is on back order on many websites, some for the foreseeable future. People have had enough of criminals and of being told by overreactionary bleeding heart victims that their Constitutional rights may be denied them.

As for, "if some guy opens up with a 50 round magazine, he'd get all 50 rounds off before you pulled your pea shooter out of your pants" ...
the clown in Newtown, CT methodically walked up to each child and put up to three bullets into him. A baseball bat applied from behind may have saved many lives ... just as it could have in Norway recently. The overwhelming problem is not with guns, but with sociopaths.

And as for "they shouldn't let angry, schizophrenic, drug using, 18 year olds buy or use assault type weapons" ... they DON'T. We already have a few dozen laws in every state prohibiting that. What good's it doing us? New laws will have zero impact on that.

I want a law prohibiting the posting on the internet of photos depicting elderly, gay, eastern-euros wearing commi jackets and fondling needlessly large pistols... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Guns don't kill people. People who get guns from the NRA kill people.

A while back, Far West posted an opinion that assault weapons were only responsible for a small portion of the 30,000 annual deaths. I tried to track that down, without much success. There is a reason--the NRA and their Republican stooges don't want you to know. Article in this mornings SF Chronicle by Dan Freedman states:

Quote:
Gun research became a contentious topic in the 1990s after the National Rifle Association lobbied successfully to strip the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of all funding for projects "used to advocate or promote gun control." ....Government gun-related reserach in the 1990's fell into the NRA's crosshairs after a 1993 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that people who kept guns in their homes were more than twice as likely to be homicide victims as those who didn't.

We could build a curious description of the Republican fantasy world, one that is entirely free of facts and information. Women who get raped don't get pregnant, the climate isn't changing, the world is 6000 years old, Romney will win big--and guns make you safer.

Maybe these folks are in a higher risk situation to begin with.

Mac, you live in a very safe neighborhood. I haven't always (by choice and necessity). When my wife and I bought an old house in a lower middle class neighborhood in Denver, (I believed the professional flight to the suburbs was killing the city) I kept a firearm handy. Since moving to a small, rural, cow town 25 years ago, the guns are kept in the safe. I choose when a gun might be needed for protection.

There is no doubt that guns are dangerous, and accidents occur. I find it frustrating that many gun owners do not take the time to really learn how to use their weapons. I also cringe at TV shows that depict improper gun handling...including the westerns touted above.

I favor some sort of required training to purchase a firearm. I believe many folks do not really consider the risks when deciding how available their weapon should be. This missing part of the dialogue has been obscurred by the politics of the NRA.

GUN GAME NUTS
How upside down is this, will this really help their cause?
Total complete idiots!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Video Game Allows Players to Murder NRA President
Jan 15, 2013 11:53 AM EST
A new online video game is taking political discourse to a whole new level. We already reported the death threats being received by NRA executives and now, a video game which allows users to shoot NRA President David Keene in the head, has been released. The creator of the game identified as gizmo01942 Ediot says, "Share this everywhere, especially gun-nut and anti-game websites. Also see if you can't send it in to the NRA somehow, like through the feedback on their website or something." Gizmo also provides screen shots to viewers, which can be seen below.
The game is available for download and comes in the form of a zip file. During a press conference in December, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre berated the video game industry for their use of violence saying, "Isn’t fantasizing about killing people all day really the filthiest form of pornography?”
This video game seems to be retaliation for the NRA's violent video game stance.
