I bought a 400cm GT Mast recently for my NP 5.4 Atlas. There's hardly no information available on these masts. It is a contant curve. Masts are made in Italy.
Has anyone had experience with these masts? What sails do you rig them with?

I have one GT mast that I use on my 7.5. I bought it used and it was matched with this sail: http://www.isthmussailboards.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GTSGT1D
they seem to be an off brand of Ezzy, their sails are exactly the same construction as the GT brand.
Seems like isthmus is the only company to sell this these types of sails/masts. |

They should rig on any sail that can take an RDM mast, and most sails that don't. |

the sails I read are a junior varsity version of Ezzy Sails, less of the good stuff, and heavier.
the masts are not Ezzy, Ezzys are made by NoLimitz in the USA and don't produce a 100% nor a SDM _________________ K4 fins

Text with the picture says "GT RDM".....
Most RDM's are interchangeable, as we don't know exactly what winds and what weights we're dealing with.
A softer RDM makes the draft flatter and farther back, not necessarily a bad thing.
A stiffner RDM makes the draft lock farther forwards, can hinder rotation, can kill low end, but it would work. |

Oh, I've been using, part time, RDM masts in NP and Gaastra's since the early '90's. They work just fine. Some less knowledgable riggers forget to add extra outhaul, so the sail's feel like mush, which they say.
I always say, forget the numbers. Instead, TUNE the sail correctly.
The best sail badly tuned is a bad sail. The worst sails perfectly tuned can work ok. |

The 100% GT mast is at 4.45 lbs while the 91% comparable Ezzy mast is 4.4 lbs according to isthmussailboards.com, a seller of GT masts .
It seems like the GT masts are the "K-Mart" Transformers" if you draw Gobot-Transformer analogy.

The GT Sails and masts are Isthmus' (Gary Stone's) own brand. Best bet would be to ask them about the details.

you have to look a little further in the product to see what else they make, not just RDMs.
winds and weights have nothing to do with mast/sail compatibility.
yes any RDM will fit the sleeve, will it perform well, hardly if its too far away from the correct mast bend curve, it won't come close to the range as designed. If its the correct curve it will be soft or stiff as recommended. _________________ K4 fins
