i'm not really sure where it is, but the few times i've gone over to sail with ron, it seems to be about 10mph high compared to on the water in the bay

Looks can be deceiving - the meter is quite accurate on most days with westerly winds (SW-W-NW). BTW, the meter is located at First Encounter Beach, at the end of the road near the inlet to the marsh, about 1.6 miles from Skaket.

We have sailed Skaket 6 times, and beaches within 2 miles of Skaket (Ellis Landing, Linnell Landing, First Encounter) 3 times. The meter readings were very close every 8 out of the 9 times; one time only, the meter readings were high. That is based on records in my session database which include wind meter screen shots, GPS tracks, equipment used, and comments.

However, the water state often indicated less wind, especially when the tide is still lower (~3 h before/after high tide). One time in SW at Skaket, three of us got fooled into rigging to big after looking at the water. We had to come in to rig down (I went from 7.0 to 5.5). SW is side shore, but side-off to offshore a bit more to windward, so the water seems very flat from shore, with few white caps. The setup was very similar to today; we had to planned on sailing Kalmus, but decoupling killed the wind there. Skaket was windy and fun.

At an unfamiliar spot, it is often very difficult to tell how windy it is , especially one with a 10-foot tide and almost half a mile of shallows. Happened to me today at Hardings, which I had never sailed in SSW before. While sailing, I was thinking the entire time "This looks like enough wind to plane", but I was schlogging most of the time. Both the meter and the water state fooled me this time Sad

I didn't use a 3.7/4.2/4.7 in the NE all year ....headed towards a steaming stagnant world.....At least the waves were ok.

Will book a few last plane tickets.

Maybe go North and shoot a polar bear before they all drown....it would be humane.

Hunting is the primary killer of polar bears, according to field data as of just a few years ago.

Me too ron.c! got the afternoon off, all set to go ,sunny and near 50 sounds good to me! Lets hope the forcast is right for a change. Got my new Dakine mitts even, and a jumbo board just in case the wind is light, Tabou rocket 145, have'nt sailed it yet. I aint givin up yet. Maybe we'll have one of those winters like in "87, I sailed lots of days in Feb. and Mar. with temps near 50 and sunny. Skiing sucked, but the windsurfing was real good.

The Ellsworth is now my main ride.

Would someone please call me when it's time to go back in the water?
