Post 11/30 - It felt comfortable quenching the internal combustion of my 5/4 up at CG on Monday.

Peter might I recommend the Chatham Lighthouse in the am. Flat water in the sharks mouth and fun little waves in the shallowes. It is a true playground in the right conditions. Mid to late morning should be good.

I starting to think about giving up on Monday

COASTAL WATERS FROM PTOWN TO CHATHAM

Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny

.TUE...W WINDS 15 TO 20 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 KT.

Noontime on might be good in the bay

Jerry, thanks for the suggestion. Last time we walked around the Chatham light house, the waves looked very tempting - clean and nicely peeling. An hour later, though, they were not breaking anymore - the tide had gotten too high, I guess.

Are the shallows on the outside of the the shark's mouth? Looks shallow on Google Earth, and I think that's were we saw waves.

Is the current something to be concerned about with the outgoing tide?

Are you planning on sailing there tomorrow morning? I'm not sure we are ready for another session in the waves after last Sunday, and there'll be flat water in Hyannis if we get SW. I guess we'll have to see how the wind will actually be. I would not be too surprised to see 30s tomorrow, at least in the gusts. Lots of SW wind, and we'll stay local. Less and S, and I (or we) might check out the lighthouse.

Change of plans: West Dennis today. Meter readings look better.

Give up??? Not yet

I took a chance and bolted from work, ate a sandwich along the way and got “de-coupled” at Kalmoose.

With the warm temps, I was not the only that showed up today; "exploring" seemed to be the agenda.

Just like at home - no one, at work, missed me.

Still hoping for a (sailing) nooner at Skaket tomorrow.

We saw Kalmus go down and West Dennis staying up, so we went there. Saw wind as we arrived, then it dropped when we started rigging. So we went on to Hardings. Got meter readings of 24 with gusts to 27 on the beach. Rigged, got out, and the wind dropped.

It came back an hour later, and I went out again on a bigger sail. Planed a bit, but mostly I verified that the meter indeed reads about 5 mph high in southerly directions. My 7.0/95 combo was a bit too small.

Should have read my own post and gone to Skaket - the Hatch Beach meter showed 25 averages most of the day. A bit gusty and a long walk, but this fall is not the fall to be picky if you want to sail.

Maybe it's time to give up on believing computer models. Otherwise I'd get excited about the NE pink for next Monday, but we all know what will happen to that in the next few days. Maybe the programs that do the wind predictions have been written by someone who hates windsurfers.

You were right on Peter about the decoupling.

Orleans stayed windy all day. By lunch time, it would have been a PITA to walk for wind.

i wouldn't get too excited about the hatch meter. i'm not really sure where it is, but the few times i've gone over to sail with ron, it seems to be about 10mph high compared to on the water in the bay.
