Im trying to work on some simple (mostly cosmetic) repairs and am trying to find some affordable epoxy that will work. The 5 minute stuff is hard to spread and the west system is way out of my price range for a few simple repairs . Is there anything in between? (or a syringe type system that is thinner and spreadable) |

I recommend Progressive Epoxy and ordering their 12oz sample kit. It comes with enough epoxy for years worth of repairs, as well as thickening agent. Less than $20 shipped, and very high-quality stuff too.

Their regular website is a PITA to navigate, but there's some good info about epoxy there. http://www.epoxyproducts.com |

the above post has just one the small repair kits from West Systems.
I rather think that easy to use, very low in price and will hold up, DONT apply in this case
the Marine Tex as mentioned before is pretty close.
you may be better off with ding stick if these are too difficult to use _________________ K4 fins

mchaco1,
I get the impression that you're not that serious about windsurfing over the long haul. While I realize that you're stoked about the sport and what it has to offer, I can't understand your reluctance to invest in important repair materials so core and vital to keeping your equipment up. A quart of West System epoxy and a pint of hardener comes in under $100. When you think about it, that's quite reasonable for what you're getting, and it will last you for many many years. I should emphasize that epoxy doesn't go bad over time. More recently I finished off some epoxy that was over 15 years old, and it still worked beautifully.
If this month's budget won't cover it, just charge it and pay it off over the next few months. The extra money in interest is minuscule in the bigger picture. Like I said, think of it as an investment in your future. |

I hate to agree with anyone on here, or any forums...
But I gotta back SW's idea of a quart, hardener, and some fiberglass cloth....for $100.
I'm basically homeless, total income under 600 a month, and two years ago, bought the epoxy resin for ding repairs and fitting fins. I still have 3/4's of it left, lots of cloth, and don't need thickening agent because I chop the cloth with scissors to make a mix. I've since cut down 2 noses of boards, did at least 4 board ding repairs, and layed some resin to the base of several fins to make it a tighter fit into finboxes.
Good investment, and it's the right stuff to use on a windsurf/surfboard. |
