Can you lefty's give us a date when the Republicans are off the hook? You controlled the congress between 06-10, then we got control of 1 house for the next 2 years. Who do you think writes the bill? Who decides where the money goes? You had a super majority for Obama. He could have done anything he wanted. Raise taxes, lower spending, not waste money on his cronies.

The people have elected a divided government for good reason. Don't continue blaming conservatives for this mess. Stop spending and it all works.

Bard--still licking your wounds and posting phony facts, denial is a difficult issue to work through. First, the Democrats had only a brief period where they had 60 Senators before Kennedy was out dying of cancer. Second, if you had studied during civics class, or paid attention during the previous 40 years of your life before you decided to hate Obama, you would know that there are procedural requirements for legislation that severely limit the pace at which legislation can proceed. Third, the Senate had several "Democrats" that were well to the right of where the average Republican was during Reagan's term, so they would only accept a limited agenda going forward. You've repeated this particular false Republican talking point without showing any actual understanding of the way the government works. Not really surprising though.

When to let the Republican's off the hook? When they cooperate at undoing some of the damage that they've done. Remember first that the Obama healthcare initiative is drawn from recommendations by conservatives to make sure that the public doesn't have to pay for health care through emergency rooms. It was a Republican idea until it was adopted by Obama--then it was socialism. But more fundamentally the housing meltdown, the run-up and subsequent collapse of the S & L industry (with Bush brothers making a killing in the bailout), and the collapse of Enron after looting energy utilities in California were all the direct result of Republican ideology. When the Republicans are smart enough to cooperate in preventing the recurrence, and smart enough to nominate a presidential candidate that doesn't simply propose discarding the weak protections that have been adopted, maybe we'll forgive them for sending the whole world's economy into the toilet.

That said, I don't necessarily disagree that a balance of power is a good idea. If the Republicans in the house were like they were before Rush and Newt entered the scene, we would quickly have moderate solutions for spending, taxation, and immigration. It remains to be seen what the wing nuts that you guys elected will do.

Bard, why do you keep misrepresenting things? Sure, Democrats had a super majority in the Senate for 2-3 months during Obama's first term presidency, but with Senator Kennedy's illness and absence, that was all over. Also, you must know that Republican's set an all time record for filibuster threats during Obama's presidency. Why not be honest about things?

When was the last time any president had a super majority? Republicans on the right were elected to represent their constiuency, not cater to Obama.

Mac, there is no hate, or racism. As a matter of fact, mature people will change their investment strategies under socialism. Anticipate a slow economy. Anticipate less freedom and more petty regulation.

The popular vote was much closer than you guys think.

Bard- the GOP represents you?
The things they do in Congress, the stuff their leaders say, most of that fills your heart with gladness?
Or are they a bunch of dicks that do not know how to govern properly?
I am not joining the Dems but am also very sure the GOP has departed and Limbaugh trump savage Boehner has taken their place, leaving thinking conservatives not even going to the polls.
The tea Party was a great bipartisan idea, except for the part about electing folks to Congress who weren't very good at it.
Try that in your own business and see how well it works.
The lobbyists purchased the Teas for the Republicans, but they are so poor at governing they chose to file no votes on all legislation including GOP bills,

The poplar vote margin was about 2.7%. Over 200,000 more votes separated Obama from Romney than Bush from Kerry 2004.

But this is the wrong thread - we should go back to the 400 pages of "that Kenyan Marxist is end of the world..."

Bard seems to have reality deficit disorder. His only response to my concerns about the Republicans was:

Quote:
Mac, there is no hate, or racism.

Of course I said nothing of that sort in my post that responded to your fantasies. I think the spread that hard core bigotry gives the Republicans is about a net of 2%--more in angry white men but offset by minority revulsion to the language the hard right uses. What I said about this election is the 8 or so years of anti-immigration rhetoric--which was wildly racist on the part of Tancredo of Colorado--increased Democratic votes from Hispanics. (listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM-cEtUfJhI) Do you have an alternative explanation for the 67% vote for Obama from Hispanics, with a substantially greater margin in Tancredo's state of Colorado? see also
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2012_05/unamerican_activities037397.php

Mitt lost because he is a patrician without a clue, particularly about the overall attitudes of fairness in distribution of wealth, and because the Republicans proposed radical policies and alienated everyone but angry white men. Good thing I'm not angry--at least not now.

Gotta chuckle. I called Fidelity to see whether they offer customers a means of guying gold in their portfolios, particularly their Roth IRAs. "We had to, due to popular demand. I'll connect you." <Click> "Fidelity Gold Group; how can I help you?" The chuckle came within one minute, on two counts:
1. The voice on the other end said, "You put a communist in the White House, smart people are going to want gold, because they know the economy will go to hell." (I did correct him on that: "Well, Marxist /fascist tending towards socialist, unarguably, but not yet communist". He agreed.)
2. I knew Fidelity wouldn't talk like that, so I asked and he concurred that he is not a Fidelity employee, but instead an employee of the long-standing self-directed IRA management corporation Fidelity contracts for that purpose. He said their calls from Fidelity clients have boomed this week to the point they're not even taking Monday off.

What's to "think"? The numbers are available. The problem is that Obama is has already stated that his reelection is reinforcement that the people want his policies. He still doesn't understand that the only Obama policy we like is "free stuff", which will bankrupt the country.

Mike, give us a call and I'll connect you to our used car dealer who will tell you all foreign cars are crap and will dissolve from rust in two years. That must make it so, especially because so many people are buying used American cars these days. Put on your thinking cap, or at least take off the tinfoil.

Dan, why dissuade Mikey and his rabid buddies from putting on the endless comedy show that is far-right-wing politics these days?
