Ezzys will... I believe NoLimitz makes the Ezzy masts

No Limitz make Ezzys masts, but to a slightly different mast bend curve
and the spigot , male female ends are opposite to NL but the same as Powerex.

How slight is slight? Just curious Smile Is it "softer" than the ezzy?

The NL should have a softer bottom and softer top, but they are not very far apart. That is the original & in the 430 size. They come out 13.5 or 13.6 , which puts both into the constant curve flex top group of 13--15 of IMCS terms. But as you can see the 13.5/13.6 is near the bottom of that group, so its not far from the constant curve group of 10-12.

This is going to change when//if you go to a 400 or to the newer NL in the Sumo version.

FWIW NL also make Goya mast, don't ask cause I don't know how they compare to the other curves, but certain the NL mast works well with Goya sails.

The numbers are somewhat misleading the curve chart starts at

0 and goes to 22

looking at RX Maui Sails at around a 9 and Neil Pryde around 14-17 you begin to grasp the difference in stiffness, but still not the entire picture about "where" its soft or stiff , in the extremes it is easy , both ends.

NL is one of the very few companies that publish the mast bend curve and you can call and speak to a human and get further details.

For whatever reasons( and some I understand why ) mast companies are extremely reluctant to disclose the curve figures.

Some magazines, like Germany's SURF have tested for a long period and complied their own findings.

in this case the OP has a great mast that DOES work with a variety of sails.

When I had Northwave Sails, they sold Powerex masts, it appears that they now sell NoLimitz masts

would lead to believe they work better than ok , the mast bend curve for NL P/X and Ezzy are close.

Isn't the Ezzy OEM more stiff-top?

THE original OEM Ezzy mast was produced by Powerex, going back a few years now

probably was a 12.
So YES compared to a 13.6 it would be stiffer especially on top, if the #s I have correspond from P/X to Ezzy in that day

The original Ezzy was produced by Powerex to spec, which I believe was modeled after the first Fiberspar RDM. Powerex brand masts were significantly on the soft-top side of constant curve, depending on size.

everything you have written may be correct, I have never heard that Ezzy masts were similarly modeled to Fiberspars RDM curve.

My understanding is the Ezzy masts are almost the same as P/X in curve,
but that now becomes a cloudy statement as what era are we referring to as P/X changed curves even prior to being made in China VS Utah. I do know that the current Ezzy mast while made by N/L is closer to P/X specs, cause David said so.

its little wonder than we find it difficult to determine which mast works where, for the most part, the companies that manufacture masts and not sails are middle of the road in mast bend curve, so put another way, 1 size fits most.

the exceptions are those sails that are on either extreme end of the scale and then perform BEST with stiff or soft tops

if you get Northwave sails and a Chinook boom your entire rig will be made in the USA Very Happy
That has to count for something!

yep, thats what im using, very happy with them..and yes that theyre still made in america does count for something.. and because theyre made in america, they come into to canada duty free.
so, i wonder why northwave, nolimtz, and chinoook can still manufacture great quality products in north america at a fair priceand , and no-one else can?
good for them!

Any sail that works with a RDM would work with those masts.
Naish sails would work well also, along with the sail brands already mentioned.

Carl,

Just heard rumors that Naish RDMís are now stiff top but I have no confirmation on that. However, my experience tells me you are dead on correct for the most part. I have Naish forces through 2010 that rig perfectly on my 2004 Nolimitz skinny, my 2006 Naish 370 RDM is 11% CC and a couple of sailors just bought a complete set of 2012 Naish Sessions from Delta Windsurf & they have been rigging fine on Nolimitz RDMís all season with no problems. As a matter of tact Iím one of the few sailors that has a Firestick RDM as most Naish sailors in the Delta are using Ezzyís or Nolimitz with their Naish wave sails.

http://www.peterman.dk/masts-all-imcs01.htm

scroll down to: NAISH Firestick 400 9.7 which is Hard Top constant curve.

Hardly a rumor, Boards UK tested the Firestick 400 in 2008 with the IMCS bend curve at 8, which is very stiff top.

The closest in stiffness to this was the Maui sails SRS @ 8.5, as a comparison the Fiberspar QT3200 was 14.2
